Gu%r2nttt. Following a decision in November 2014 by The Emery Walker Ttust Ttustees. ill the
Assets And ￿abl￿￿eS transferred to the new Emery Walker Tnjsl charit2ble comp2ny from the
fonner The Emery Wa]k-er Tn]st (Chariry Number 1080438) from 31st December 2014.
Background
Sir Emcry Kvalker (1851-1933) was a pioneeung engrnver. printer *nd rype desiEner. A close friend
06 W￿l￿M Morris, with whom he couaborated at the Keim5COtt Press, he was an important and
influentixl member of the Arts & CrAft movemenL With T J Cobden-sanderson Sir Etnery
Eoun(kd the Doves Pre55- onc OF the m05t itnportant private presses OE the period. He lived xt
No. 7 H*mmetsmith Tettace for the ]2st ?5 yeats of his life.
Sir Emery's dxughter, Dorothy, conrinued io ￿ve in the budding after her f21hee5 death. She did
not aiier in a material way either the inienor decoratson or the fUrnIs￿"ngs. In 1948, 1 young Dutch
woman, Elizabeth dc Haas. ioined the household as ￿"s$ WAlket's companion. Dorothy WxlLer
died in 1963 and left the bu]k of her Estsre co ￿"s5 de Haas. Ehzabeth de Haas was detem)ined to
retain the house And its conients un21iered 2s a memorial 10 Sir Emery and hts daughter and to the
Arts & Ctxfts movement. By %nd latge she succeeded in her ambition xlthough the bulk of Sir
Emery's ￿brary wa5 501d to Cheltenham Borough Counol in 1994.
The imporr8t)ce of No. 7 HammetyD)ith Tetrace hes in the fact thar its decoration 2nd thc contents
(the furniture, pictures. sculptures and teiules) were put together by Sir Emery W%lker and reflect
both lu"s taste and thar of h"Js Colleag￿e$ in the Arts & C￿ft5 Movemeni and that it has remained
largely unaltered sinee the 1920$, unhLe m•ny of the other houses in Btitsill 25SOCi2ttd with the
artistic and creaixve life of that penod.

The Emery Walker Trust As a regtstercd chatity (1158505) set up by the late bliss Ehzabeth de
Haxs. Miss de H22s Ih"ed on 17 June 1999. She bequeathed to the Trust the grearer pan of her
Est•te fftcludmg the freehold of No. 7 Hxmtnusmith Tenace and the associated collection OE
textiles, painungs, drawings, Eurniwre, book5 xnd other objecrs #ss¢xi#ted with Sir Emery Walket
and the Arts & Crafts movemenL The Tnjst was origmally constituted by % Trust Deed and was
entered upon the Central Register oEChArities on 26th Aprd 2000 (chxtiry numbtt 1080438). The

Arts & Crafts Hammersmith Programme
In 2013 the TTr￿[ was successful. in parmership with the Willtam Morri5 Society (WMS), in
secuting a Hetitige Lottery Fond (HLF) Round One Devdopment Grant for a proposed capitsl
and acuviry based project 'An$ & Crafts Hxmmezstnith.. developing the legacy o[Wd￿"1M Monis
and Emery Walkeg. The Round One GrAnt enabled the employment OF a part time Project
Manager and a part time CuTrconal Backfill posr order to lead the developmeTLt of the Round
Two HLF bid. ConsLTltants were appointed to support devdopment of plans for joint learning
and communiry engagement acllvity, dLythI access, capiral works and desy, conservation needs,
busine$$ planning (Focusts)g on joini #ctiwties and initiatives with the WJllJHffj Mottis Society) and
the acquisiiiorl of PArmership match fundjng to lever the HLF grant. Ewf ttustee5 approved the
Arts & Crafts Hammersmith Round Two appbcation in Augusi 2014. prior to subn)ission to rhe
HLF.

The Trust has had to flexibly adapi our acuvities to reflect the impact of the coronavitus pandemic
