During this period, we continued to work out our activities in compliance with the various government restrictions, due to the pandemic. We were grateful to St. Philip’s School who allowed us, first of all, to use their school field, for part of September, and then the school hall for the remainder of the period. This was interrupted by another lock down where we had to revert to Zoom for 3 months. 

Under these circumstances we continued to prioritise the centrality of God’s word in our teaching, singing, reading and praying. Our job is to make disciples of all nations. We do this through the God-given means of baptism and teaching everything Christ commanded. (Matt 28:18-20). We strive to _**present the word of God in its fullness**_ so that we may _**present everyone fully mature in Christ.**_ (Col 1:25,28) 

As we do so, we seek to be a people who, centred on the apostles’ teaching, are united in partnership, enjoy tablefellowship, are committed to prayer and seek to meet eachothers’ needs. This is all to the glory and praise of God who, as it pleases him, will add to our number. 

Although we meet in one geographical location, it is our task to equip all of God’s people to serve and live for him wherever he has put us: in our different neighbourhoods, schools, workplaces, clubs etc. 

As a local expression of the body of Christ God has, by His Spirit, graciously and generously given gifts to each of us for the common good. It is the faithful outworking of each of these gifts that enables Emmanuel to enjoy good health as we serve Christ, and one another. 

We pray that our unity around the truth of the gospel would issue in deep love for one another: that is patient and kind, that

does not envy or boast and is not proud; that does not dishonour others, is not self-seeking and is not easily angered; that keeps no record of wrongs, that does not delight in evil but that rejoices with the truth. That always protects, always trusts, always hopes always perseveres, and that never fails.

## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

## **Bible Teaching** 

During this period, we began preaching through Luke’s gospel on Sunday mornings. In the evenings we preached through Isaiah, Lamentations and some Psalms. 

## **Ministry Trainees** 

Sam and Chelsea continued as Ministry Trainees during this period for their second year and we also took on Josiah. Their contribution to Emmanuel life during this challenging season has been invaluable. 

## **Christmas (2020)** 

We hosted two outdoor carol services due to singing restrictions: one in St. Philip’s school car park and the other in Odd Down Sports Ground car park. Overall we welcomed many families/individuals from our communities. 

## **Easter (2021)** 

Easter weekend was the first weekend we were allowed to gather physically after another round of government restrictions. In previous years we had done a dramatization of the Easter story as an outreach event in a home/garden. This year we did a similar thing on the Good Friday and Easter Sunday at the school hall. 

## **Men’s events** 

We were unable to run pool nights, however the school dads’ football sessions carried on intermittently, depending on restrictions.

## **Income** 

Praise God that the generosity of God’s people is allowing his gospel work to continue! Although we no longer receive any grant funding, we have been blessed by an increase in the individual contributions for this year. The income figures shown do not account for the Gift Aid claim for the period (circa £10k), which is reflected in the next accounting period. 

## **Expenditure** 

Regular expenses have continued to be slightly lower than in previous years, due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 driving a change in our normal practices. We have spent less on venue hire and catering. 

Some of this reduction was offset by an increase in the salary of Ad through the payment of a one-off bonus. This was mainly driven by our desire to ensure that we pay a fair and reasonable salary in support of Ad in his full-time work as our Pastor. Ad’s regular salary will be subject to review in April 2022. 

## **Payments to Trustees** 

Over the course of our financial year the following reimbursements were paid to the trustees: 

- £114 to Jonathan Norris (Catering) 

In addition to this Ad Taylor-Weekes received £35,773 (gross) in remuneration in his office as Pastor, plus an additional £4,692 in pension payments. 

## **Cash Flow** 

The Charity Commission recommends that we retain at least 2 months cash flow in reserve. Our total Assets less our designated funds amount to £18,879, which exceeds the £8,485 required.

## **Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Emmanuel Church, Bath** 

I report on the accounts of the charity for the period 1[st] September 2020 to 31[st] August 2021. 

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner** 

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. 

It is my responsibility to: 

- examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act; 

- follow the procedures laid down in the general directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and 

- state whether particular matters have come to my attention. 

## **Basis of independent examiner’s report** 

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustee concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. 

## **Independent examiner’s statement** 

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention: 

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: 

- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and 

- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the counting requirements of the 2011 Act 

have not been met; or 

(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
