Summary of the main For half of this year our main activities remained the same as previous activities undertaken for the years. During the other half (from March 2020) various of our usual public benefit in relation to activities have had to stop to comply with government restrictions due to these objects (include within the pandemic. These include Emmanuel lunch, physical prayer meetings, this section the statutory the ladies’ Bible study, men’s groups and, at times, our Sunday meetings. declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance However, despite these restrictions, our core priorities have not stopped, issued by the Charity even if we have had to find new ways of doing this. This is testimony to Commission on public the enduring and unchanging nature of God’s Word. Our goal remains to benefit) present the word of God in its fullness and thereby, to present everyone fully mature in Christ. So, we have continued to meet together, either virtually or physically when possible, to sing, read, pray, learn from and encourage each other in God’s Word. Other regular happenings are: - WOW (Women of the Word: ladies’ Bible study) who have met each week in term time to study the Bible, pray and eat lunch together. During the second half of the year, these have been a mixture of virtual meetings and, when possible, smaller gatherings. - Student Bible Study meets weekly during term time to study the Bible, pray and eat dinner together. This has also moved to virtual meetings during the restrictions. - We continued, over the first half of the year to run a toddler group (TOTs) from the local community centre where we also met on Sundays. This, too, has moved to a virtual meeting. -The men have met one evening a month to discuss various current issues from a biblical perspective. Since the restrictions we have not met regularly, apart from individually and informally. - Various people are engaged in regular 1-2-1 Bible studies - We have run several Christianity Explored and follow-on groups The Trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)
You may choose to include further statements, where relevant, about:
- policy on grantmaking;
Our conviction is that our job is to make disciples of all nations. We do this through the God-given means of baptism and teaching everything Christ commanded. (Matt 28:18-20). We strive to present the word of God in its fullness . Christ is the one we proclaim, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ.
• policy programme related investment; As we do so, we seek to be a people who, centred on the apostles’ teaching, are united in partnership, enjoy table-fellowship, are committed • contribution made by to prayer and seek to meet each-others’ needs. This is all to the glory volunteers. and praise of God who, as it pleases him, will add to our number. Although we meet in one geographical location, it is our task to equip all of God’s people to serve and live for him wherever he has put us: in our different neighbourhoods, schools, workplaces, clubs etc.
As a local expression of the body of Christ God has, by His Spirit, graciously and generously given gifts to each of us for the common good. It is the faithful outworking of each of these gifts that enables Emmanuel to enjoy good health as we serve Christ, and one another.
Pray that our unity around the truth of the gospel would issue in deep love for one another: that is patient and kind, that does not envy or boast and is not proud; that does not dishonour others, is not self-seeking and is not easily angered; that keeps no record of wrongs, that does not delight in evil but that rejoices with the truth. That always protects, always trusts, always hopes always perseveres, and that never fails.

Section D Achievements and erformance p Hellos Summary of the main We had the privilege of welcoming one family who are now regular achievements of the charity attenders of Emmanuel. during the year In addition there are several people who have come through Christianity Explored who would now see themselves as part of Emmanuel. We welcomed one additional member.into Emmanuel. Goodbyes After the Summer we said good-bye to some students who have left Bath. Also one family who had irregularly attended Emmanuel decided to move on elsewhere. They weren’t members. Fireworks (2019) We were able to host a fireworks party around 5[th] November where we welcomed several families from our communities. Christmas (2019) We hosted two carol services in Odd Down Community Centre where we welcomed around 8 families/individuals from our communities. The weekend away (February 2020) We managed to go away as a church just before the national restrictions came into force. We’re grateful to God for this opportunity. We invited Grace Church, Hilton to join us. And we invited Phil Hair to give our main talks. This was a wonderful time and great timing, in retrospect. Friends of Grace Church came to teach our children. Our talks were from Psalm 23. We also spent some time thinking about Emmanuel and to survey our journey thus far and to explore some of the opportunities and challenges that we could see ahead. Little did we know what was coming! Easter (2020) We celebrated Easter with virtual meetings, as physical meetings were not permitted at this point. We held a Good Friday meeting and then an all-age meeting on the Sunday. Christianity Explored etc. We were involved in running Christianity Explored in conjunction with a local school for parents. Several school parents attended. There are various others who have been meeting one-to-one to study the Bible with people who are not yet Christians. Book Club Some Emmanuel ladies continued meeting as a book club with some other parents from the school. This moved on-line. Men’s events We ran several pool nights for men as well as a monthly dad’s football sessions. This also stopped over the second half of the year. Appentices We took on 2 apprentices who greatly contributed to and facilitated much of Emmanuel-life as well as receiving training and experience.

Emmanuel Church Bath
Income
Amidst the challenges of 2020 it remains a great blessing that individuals continued to be moved to give to support the ongoing work of Emmanuel. We received a greater value of gifts than expected and therefore income has exceeded last year, even though we have not received any grant funding this year. For this, we should give thanks to God!
Expenditure
Our expenses have been slightly lower than in previous years, largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic driving a change in our normal practices. We have spent less on venue hire and catering.
Some of this reduction was offset by an increase in the salary of Ad for a period of 6 months during the first lockdown. This decision was taken due to the additional preparation workload required by Ad due to the change in the format of our meetings.
Payments to Trustees
Over the course of our financial year the following reimbursement payments were paid to the trustees:
-
£427 to Ad Taylor-Weekes (Catering)
-
£748 to Jonathan Norris (Catering)
In addition to this Ad Taylor-Weekes received £25,200 (gross) in remuneration in his office as Pastor, plus an additional £3,553 in pension payments. This accounts for:
- an alteration of the pro-rata calculation to 6 paid days out of 6 for a period of 6 months from March 2020.
Cash Flow
The Charity Commission recommends that we retain at least 2 months cash flow in reserve. Our total Assets less our designated funds amount to £19,894, which exceeds the £7,200 required.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Emmanuel Church, Bath
I report on the accounts of the charity for the period 1[st] September 2019 to 31[st] August 2020.
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
-
follow the procedures laid down in the general directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
-
state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner’s report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustee concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner’s statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act; and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the counting requirements of the 2011 Act
have not been met; or
(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
