Trustees are supplied with an agreed policy defining the trustees' roles and responsibilities together with a copy of the constitution. ## **Risk management** The trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed. Where appropriate, systems and/or procedures have been established to mitigate the risks the charity faces. Internal risks are minimised by the implementation of procedures for authorisation of all transactions and projects. Procedures are in place to ensure compliance with health and safety of members and volunteers. ## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES** The principal activity of Bumble Bees Mixed Ability Rugby during the year has been to promote community participation in healthy recreation in West Yorkshire and beyond, in particular by the provision of facilities for the playing of rugby; also, the relief of disabled people resident in West Yorkshire and beyond by bringing people into contact with the sport. ## **DEVELOPMENT, ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS** Report from Hayley Collis, on behalf of the Trustees: 2020/21 has been a challenging year for many charities and sports clubs due to the pandemic and the Bumbles were no exception. Our priority was the safeguarding of our players and we followed the government advice both as a charity and as a rugby club. As mental health and wellbeing plays a huge part in what we do as a club/charity, we as a charity wanted to ensure our players and facilitators were looked out for and not isolated during lockdown. Peer to peer support from the coaches and facilitators kept in touch via phone/text on at least a weekly basis with the players and each other with an encouragement to look after their health and wellbeing and to keep up their fitness where possible. All our facilitators and coaches are volunteers and as Chair of the charity, I can’t thank them enough for going above and beyond in this way. Our motto, “Bee a Hero” you certainly are. As lockdown restrictions were eased, socially distanced weekly walks were introduced which helped to increase fitness levels back to training levels. **- 2 -** ## **BUMBLE BEES MIXED ABILITY RUGBY** ## **TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT** _**(continued)**_ ## **YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2021** ## **DEVELOPMENT, ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS** _**(continued)**_ In September 2020 the Bumbles players, coaches and supporters took part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks. All was organised with Covid safety in mind and additional funds were raised. The World Cup to Cork has been postponed to June 2022. Now that restrictions are lifting, training and games are now being organised and recommenced. As I step down from my position of Chair and being involved with the charity for over 6 years, I reflect on what, together, we have achieved and am incredibly proud. The charity is in far healthier place with some sustainable income and reserves. We have skilled trustees now on board to help guide the charity and support the Bumbles rugby through the next chapter. We have a vibrant website and presence on social media and have gained additional support from the local community. We have up-to-date brochures and posters available for all and work alongside the Bumbles Rugby to achieve our objectives: RUGBY FOR ALL. ## **FINANCIAL REVIEW** The total excess of income over expenditure for the year was £9,727. Reserves at the end of the year were £17,823 to be used to help fund future activities. ## **RESERVES AND FUNDS** The trustees will be investing surplus reserves in projects that aim to increase the charity’s service to the community. ## **PUBLIC BENEFIT** The Trustees confirm that they have complied with their duty to have due regard for the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit, ‘Charities and public benefit’. ## **PLANS FOR FUTURE PERIODS** The main priority for the Trustees is to promote the charity’s programmes and activities. **- 3 -** ## **BUMBLE BEES MIXED ABILITY RUGBY** **TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT** _**(continued)**_ ## **YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2021** ## **RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE TRUSTEES** The charity's trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees’ Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and regulations. The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year. Under that law the trustees have elected to prepare the financial statements in accordance with United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (United Kingdom Accounting Standards and applicable law). The trustees must not approve the financial statements unless they are satisfied that they give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and the income and expenditure of the charity for that period. In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to: - select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently; - observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP; - make judgements and accounting estimates that are reasonable and prudent; - state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements; - prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation. The trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain the charity’s transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011 and the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act), and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: - examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act; - to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act; and - to state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## **BASIS OF INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT** My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. ## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT** In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which give me cause to believe that in, any respect: - accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or - the accounts do not accord with the accounting records.
