BUMBLE BEES MIXED ABILITY RUGBY
TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT
YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2020
The trustees present their report and the unaudited financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 July 2020.
REFERENCE AND ADMINISTRATIVE DETAILS
Reference and administrative details are shown on page 1.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT
Bumble Bees Mixed Ability Rugby is a charitable incorporated organisation, Registered Charity No. 1158351, and is governed by its constitution.
Recruitment and appointment of trustees
Trustees are elected every three years by vote at an Annual General Meeting.
Trustee induction and training
Induction of Trustees is largely through informal discussion with new recruits. Trustees are supplied with an agreed policy defining the trustees' roles and responsibilities together with a copy of the constitution.
Risk management
The trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed. Where appropriate, systems and/or procedures have been established to mitigate the risks the charity faces. Internal risks are minimised by the implementation of procedures for authorisation of all transactions and projects. Procedures are in place to ensure compliance with health and safety of members and volunteers.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
The principal activity of Bumble Bees Mixed Ability Rugby during the year has been to promote community participation in healthy recreation in West Yorkshire and beyond, in particular by the provision of facilities for the playing of rugby; also, the relief of disabled people resident in West Yorkshire and beyond by bringing people into contact with the sport.
DEVELOPMENT, ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Our 2019/20 year began in August with preseason training and summer O2 Touch sessions which were well attended. Key pre-season successes were the recruitment of both woman and junior players ready for the upcoming rugby season.
Rugby fixtures were fulfilled as normal up to January 2020, with the team enjoying matches played both home and away. This included the annual Christmas rugby game played against the RFU Referees followed by a great Christmas social hosted at the Bradford and Bingley Rugby Club.
Unfortunately training and rugby matches were suspended during the COVID 19 lockdown. All Bumble Bees Rugby activity has since followed government and England RFU Covid 19 guidance. The rugby committee completed thorough risk assessments to ensure the safety of players at all times. When permitted players have taken part in sociably distanced walks and training.
Much of the early season was focused on fund raising and preparing for IMART 2020 World Cup due to take place in Ireland in June. When the tournament was postponed due to Covid 19 the focus of both the rugby club and the charity was to work together to ensure monies and sponsorship already committed were secured for the rescheduled 2021 event.

TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT (continued)
YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2020
DEVELOPMENT, ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS (continued)
The Bumbles are more than just a rugby club and during lockdown the welfare of players has been a major concern. To their great credit players have supported each other throughout the long lockdown periods and we are ready to go again stronger than ever into the new 2020/21 season.
We have continued to build our social media presence during the year to raise awareness of mixed ability rugby.
The charity has benefitted once again from support from the Eldwick Beer Festival who helped enable the players to raise monies towards attending IMART 2020. We would also like to acknowledge the support of the Rotary Club, Hays Travel, Carroll Clean the Co-op and TDX who have all made generous donations and or supported fundraising to enable our charity to full fill its aims.
We would also like to thank our key 2019-20 sponsors Melrose Textile Ltd, Torque Solutions and Collis Mediation for their generous and continued support.
The Bumbles Mixed Ability Rugby team and charity have once again been hugely supported by both Bradford and Bingley Rugby Club and Baildon Rugby Club who have happily provided not just training and match day facilities for the team to use, but social opportunities for players to engage in and enjoy. We would finally like to thank all our pitch side, fundraising and social supporters for their support during the year.
Our goals for next season are to safely return to rugby training and recommence matches, to increase our woman and junior player numbers and to continue to raise awareness of mixed ability rugby helping to achieve equal opportunities for all.
FINANCIAL REVIEW
The total excess of income over expenditure for the year was £310. Reserves at the end of the year were £8,096 to be used to help fund future activities.
RESERVES AND FUNDS
The trustees will be investing surplus reserves in projects that aim to increase the charity’s service to the community.
PUBLIC BENEFIT
The Trustees confirm that they have complied with their duty to have due regard for the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit, ‘Charities and public benefit’.
PLANS FOR FUTURE PERIODS
The main priority for the Trustees is to promote the charity’s programmes and activities.

TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT (continued)
YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2020
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE TRUSTEES
The charity's trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees’ Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and regulations.
The law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial statements for each financial year. Under that law the trustees have elected to prepare the financial statements in accordance with United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (United Kingdom Accounting Standards and applicable law). The trustees must not approve the financial statements unless they are satisfied that they give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the charity and the income and expenditure of the charity for that period.
In preparing these financial statements, the trustees are required to:
-
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
-
observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP;
-
make judgements and accounting estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements;
-
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in operation.
The trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records that are sufficient to show and explain the charity’s transactions and disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011 and the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
INDEPENDENT EXAMINER
Andrea Kennedy BFP FCA FCCA ATT(Fellow) has been re-appointed as independent examiner for the ensuing year.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT TO THE TRUSTEES
YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2020
I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 July 2020 set out on pages 6 to 9.
RESPECTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRUSTEES AND INDEPENDENT EXAMINER
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 (the Charities Act), and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts under section 145 of the Charities Act;
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Charities Act; and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
BASIS OF INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT
In connection with my examination, no material matters have come to my attention which give me cause to believe that in, any respect:
-
accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
-
the accounts do not accord with the accounting records.
I have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
