The trustees present their annual directors. report and financial statements of the charity for the year ended

Companie5 Act purposes.
The financial ststements comply with the Charities Act 2011. the Companies Art 2006. the Memorandum and
Article5 of Association, and the Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended Practice
applicable to charitie5 preparing their accounts in accordan￿ with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable
in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 issued on I" January 2019.
Objectives and artivities
The purposes of the charity are to..
Provide support for victims and survwors of domestic Molence and abuse for people aged 16 or over
and their families. throughout the United Kingdom.
Also to 3dvancÈ publit and professional education and understanding of the issues of domestic
violencelabuse throughout the UK.
The charity furthers its charitable purposes for the public benefit, We strive to ensure that when survlvors
contact us they receive support from well-trained and knowledgable advisors. who have undertaken a full and
comprehensive training programme.
We offer professional training to any organisation that wants to improve their knowledge and service offer
around dgmestic abuse. This year we were able to work with GM Probation, Rainbow Heaven. GMP. the
Oran8e Umbrella projert and We Belong to offer bespoke training. We continued our approach to raisin8
awareness of domestic abuse with 5ts11s at popular locations such as the Manchester Arndale centre and the
Lowry theatre. For the first time we welcomed Manchester university medital students to our service to gtve
them the opportunity to learn more about supporting survivors of abuse. This 15 a new initiative by
Manchester university medical team to ensure that newly graduated doctors are aware of non-medital issues
that they may encounter. The feedback from those taking part has been very positive and we look forward to
welcoming further students on an annual basis.
A review of a¢hievements and performance
Our vital work on the helpline hJs ¢ontinued this year with us speaking to 3398 people seekin8 support.
We are seeing an increase in the impact of the cost of living crisis affetting our callers with 7%
explaining Ihat cost of living was exacerbating the abuse and 17% reportin8 that they had no actess to
money in order to leave.
As we continue to look for ways io support our callers. we are delighted to have started a joint project
with the University of Law, offering a free legal line to callers. The legal line can support 5urvivor5 bv
giv¢ne bespoke legal advice from a qualified legal professional.
We are excited to have started a second projert working wtth Safety 4 Sisters which delivers prartical and
emotional s¥pport to women with no recourse to ptsblic funds. A part-tirne worker, with attess to financial
support ensures that victims are able to have their basic safety needs and human rights met, for this often
overlooked group. The project has now expanded to coverthe whole of Greater Manchester.

'Behind closed doors.. Working with Helph"Im and their staff of actors. directors. camera c￿W and set dresser
we developed an awareness film that looked at all forms of domestic abuse and where we challenged the
common stereotypes of who can be victims. We were delighted to have the opportunity to release our film

by our guest speakers the Lord Mayor, Donna Ludford.. Superintendent Jane Higham from GMP and Chri55ie

oul in the statement below.
Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no marter has come to my attention:
