THE GWYL LLANFYLLIN FESTIVAL ASSOCIATION, known as the Llanfyllin Festival Association, is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with a constitution.
New Trustees are selected by Trustees and committee members and appointed at an AGM or a general meeting (Margaret Clennett was appointed a Trustee in November 2021). It is usual for potential Trustees to serve on the committee before being appointed as a Trustee.
The charity is run by volunteers; in the main these are the trustees and committee members, who organise and run the concerts and any other events.
Activities and Performance for the Period
As stated in the constitution: “The charity's objects are to promote, develop and maintain public education in and appreciation of the art and science of music in all its aspects by the presentation of public concerts and recitals and by such other ways as the trustees shall determine from time to time in the county of Powys for the public benefit.”
To achieve the objective the Charity usually organises four concerts to be performed by the Allegri String Quartet, but again this year was prevented from doing so by national lockdowns.
Financial Review
Income for the financial year was £3,400 from grants and donations. Outgoings were £500 in cancellation fees plus £95.00 for administrative items. Ironically, given no concerts, there is a comforting overall surplus, which is wholly the result of the grants contribution and donations, and our thanks must go as always to the Derek Hill Foundation. In a difficult year this has proved invaluable and heartening.
The fixed assets are staging, valued at c. £900 and a marquee, valued at c. £200, while current assets are represented by cash at the bank of £46,106 (current and deposit accounts).
The purpose of any deposit account reserve remains as previously reported, namely to:

make provision for the 50[th] anniversary of the Llanfyllin Music Festival in 2022;

help cover any operating loss;

provide a buffer for the possible loss of grants, while alternative sources of funding can be found. For a number of years, the charity has received a grant, through the charity’s patron The Rt. Hon. The Earl of Gowrie, from the Derek Hill foundation.
The Charity’s bank is HSBC, 25 Broad Street, Welshpool SY21 7RN, and a deposit account is with Cambridge and Counties Bank, Charnwood Court, New Walk, Leicester LE1 6TE. It is hoped to have moved the current account from HSBC to NatWest by the calendar year- end.
