## **LITTLEHAMPTON u3a ANNUAL REPORT 2025**

## **CHARITY NUMBER 1158275**

## **Governance**

It was agreed by the Committee that the Financial Year of Littlehampton u3a would be changed to mirror the calendar year. This Annual Report therefore covers a period of ten months, 1[st] March 2025 to 31[st] December 2025.

Littlehampton u3a’s policies were reviewed and updated in October and November 2025. The next review will take place in 2027. Work to update the website began in the autumn and the new website should be available from March 2026.

## **Management Committee**

The Chair and the Business Secretary completed their three-year terms of office and, at the AGM, a new Chair, Deputy Chair and Business Secretary were elected. A new Treasurer was also elected at the AGM but unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, they had to step down from that role later in the year. A replacement Treasurer will be co-opted to the Committee in January 2026.

Committee meetings were held each month (excluding December). Members of the Committee attended the monthly Coffee Mornings and Speaker Meetings inorder to welcome members to those events and to answer any queries that members may have.

## **Membership and Finances**

At the end of the year, there were 638 members.

The income was generated from membership fees, Gift Aid and events such as Coffee Mornings and Speaker Meetings. The expenditure paid for the hire of venues for group activities and events, Third Age Trust Affiliation, u3a Matters magazine and the use of our Beacon database system, printing and postage, together with sundry expenses.

## **Activities**

Members of Littlehampton u3a continue to favour groups which promote physical activity and wellbeing. During the year, two additional Tai Chi groups were established, as well as two Easy Chair Exercises groups. Other groups include Sing for Joy, Acoustic Guitar, German Conversation and Painting for Pleasure. A Beach Cleaning group meets fortnightly which, as well as providing group members with exercise, also helps to give something back to the community.

Littlehampton u3a is aware of the powerful impact the organisation can have on trying to alleviate loneliness and the feeling of isolation. Coffee Mornings and Speaker Meetings, both of which provide opportunities to socialise with fellow members, continue to be popular with u3a members. Speaker Meetings covered a wide range of topics during the year, ranging from the Modern RNLI to Policing Sussex. A particularly popular event was a talk on Bronze and Iron Age Sussex. A number of outings took place during the year, with members having an opportunity to visit Hever Castle, Winchester Cathedral and the Chichester Ship Canal. Once again, the Christmas Party arranged by the Committee for members proved to be a very popular event, with the Committee receiving the following comment from an attendee: _"I congratulate everyone who organised it. Everything about it spelt HAPPINESS & these days - with the world as it is - we all needed those two hours to smile.”_

## **Littlehampton u3a**

## **Independent Examiner’s Report**

## **To the Trustees of Littlehampton u3a**

I report to the trustees on my examination of the financial statements, on Form CC16a, of Littlehampton u3a (the charity) for the period ended 31 December 2025.

## **Responsibilities and basis of report**

As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s financial statements carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act. In carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

## **Independent examiner's statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

- 1 accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the 2011 Act; or

- 2 the financial statements do not accord with those records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the financial statements to be reached.
