Activities
The centre supports our local community with a range of regular and seasonal activities organised by our Centre Manager, Kim Smith and run by our volunteers, it is available for local groups and may be hired by businesses or for private parties.
This years events included a fabulous trip to Skegness which was offered to our community at a reasonable rate as it was subsidised by Barratt Charitable Giving fund and our own Snack Attack fund. Other events included Pancake day/Halloween carving/Christmas activities, including a Christmas lunch and who can forget the Fancy dress Easter Tea party.
Centre activities include Stay and Play, Youth Club (B.A.C.T. with WNRC volunteers), Weekly Breakfast and Lunch Clubs, Snack Attack(School Holidays), Fund raisers. Other users include Slimming World, Child Health clinics, Citizens Advice, Autumn Days, Yoga, Karate, Easy Movers and Shout Out.
Farm Fresh, a local charity, still come to the Centre to hand out fresh food to about 60 young families who have children in Winshill schools, once a fortnight in term time.
The trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
We regularly review and update our policies, and introduce new policies as required
Volunteers
Our fantastic volunteers are an asset to the centre, who go above and beyond what is expected of them. Their commitment to the community does them credit. All volunteers are D.B.S. checked and are offered training appropriate to their roles.
Achievements and Performance
Once again our catering volunteers were awarded 5 Star Hygiene Certificate following inspection
The centre is open every weekday with regular group sessions meeting weekly or fortnightly. Our Volunteers helping to provide cooked breakfasts and luncheon on, normally, a weekly basis. In addition we have the Snack Attack project in school holidays as well as celebrations for special holidays.
We received a Grant from East Staffordshire Borough Council to have solar panels fitted to the Centre. These have been fitted and will hopefully reduce our electricity bill for the coming years.
The Centre’s garden was part of the sucessful Winshill in Bloom project that won the RHS Britain in Bloom National Finals this year. We are very proud to be a part of this achievement and thank all who helped us get our gardens looking great.
Financial Review
Our Reserve level is documented in our Financial Control Policy.
The amount that we hold in reserve is four months running cost, currently £16,000 these are held so that should our funding from the Parish Council cease then we will have this time to secure alternative funding.
No funds are held on behalf of others The Charity does not offer grants The Charity has no social investments
Funding
Our purpose in raising funds is to keep the centre open and staffed as much as possible, and to provide amenities for the community free to access, or at a minimum charge. The annual grant from Winshill Parish Council goes a long way towards covering our running costs. Although we may have to look further a field for addition funding for Core Costs.
In addition this year we have been fortunate to receive other grants from :- ASDA, East Staffordshire Borough Council (warm spaces grant/solar panels), Barratt Charitable Giving Fund which went towards our Skegness Trip, the Charities Aid Foundation and Winshill Parish Council who also fund the annual Parish Fayre and the Citizen Advice Bureau, who visit the Centre once a week..
We receive donations in cash or goods from many individuals and are especially grateful for a generous private cash donation, which is given fortnightly and enables us to support our users in many ways.
