Structure

Allsorts Preschool (Underwood) is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) overseen by a Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is currently comprised of past & present parents who use the Preschool & 2 members of staff. The members of staff are Philippa Tomczyk & Sharon Housley, they were employed as staff before being appointed as trustees & they abstain from any voting decisions where there may be a conflict of interests. Trustees are also welcomed from other members of families & carers who use or have used the Preschool & interested members of the public.

Aims & Objectives

Allsorts preschool provides free or affordable, quality, childcare in a village setting based in the local Community Centre in Underwood. We provide care for any child aged 2-5, providing them with the learning opportunities to develop to their full individual potential in a safe & happy environment, before progressing on to school. We are Ofsted registered & all our activities reflect the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. Many of our parents use us as an opportunity for their children to learn & play with others. Our overall aim is to help lay the foundations for learning. We are now a well-recognised part of the community. There are no other preschools that are within walking distance. Underwood itself has very few facilities & people have to rely a lot on having a car.

Achievements & Performance

Over the year the number of children on the register has continued to increase until we have been operating at full capacity & also have a waiting list of children ready to start in September 2025. A lot our new children come to us as a result of being recommended by friends &

family, siblings having attended previously, our reputation & having seen us during outdoor play when they are on the local park with their children Additional support is provided for all children with additional needs who attend the setting, with 1:1 supervision being given for a proportion of each session. Links are in place with local schools to help all children to transition into school in September 2025.

Children’s developmental progress has been in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. Any delays due to communication & language or social skills have been identified & support put in place. Children are happy & secure whilst playing & learning. Parents/carers are happy with the service being provided. There have been no complaints, parents/carers are aware of our Complaints Procedure.

There have been no changes in staff over the year & no recruitment. All staff have given 100% commitment, we have pushed ourselves to working at full capacity in terms of the number of children on the register & kept our expenditure on equipment & resources to the minimum needed to operate effectively whilst still maintaining the high quality of the service we provide. As a result we have managed to turn our financial situation around this year making a significant profit for the first time in several years.

Difculties

Our costs have increased significantly again this year, in particular wages. The increase in the minimum wage has caused wages to rise by 9.8% from April 2024. In November 2024 to help meet these increased costs we had to increase our fees from £12.50 per session to £15.00 for those not using free childcare funding. This did lead to a parent cutting back on the number of sessions their child attended & some parents who pay for sessions not increasing them further.

Future Goals

Our aim is to continue to run at full capacity by ensuring that we replace those children who leave in September 2026 to start school with new children & encourage existing children’s hours to be increased where ever possible. This can be helped by advertising our services more & maintaining our good links with existing families.
