It is governed by a constitution dated 8 August 2014. Wilmslow Half Marathon (Registered Charity CC 1158220) 1 ## **Organisational structure** The charity is governed by between 5 and 7 trustees, currently there are 5 trustees. All trustees provide their services on a voluntary basis and receive no remuneration. The management and organisation of the charity’s main event of the year, the Wilmslow Half Marathon, is carried out by a Committee of 8 people. All committee members provide their services on a voluntary basis and receive no remuneration. ## **Objectives** The following objects of the Wilmslow Half Marathon CIO are for the public benefit:- - 1) The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation for the benefit of the inhabitants of Wilmslow by the provision of funds and facilities for running/athletics and playing rugby, hockey, lacrosse and cricket and such other sports as the trustees may in their absolute discretion deem appropriate; and - 2) To support such general charitable purposes as the trustees in their absolute discretion may determine. ## **Activities** The Wilmslow Half Marathon raises funds by organising an annual half marathon race in the roads around Wilmslow and Mobberley. The event is held at the end of March or beginning of April and has been held since 1984. Usually between 3-5000 competitors enter the event. Any surplus generated by the event is distributed to sports clubs and other organisations in the area. In 2019 the committee rebranded the event as the Wilmslow Running Festival and incorporated a 10Km race and a children’s fun run. The race was cancelled due to Covid in 2020, The 2021 race which was due to take place in March was postponed until September 2021. The 2022 race took place as planned in March 2022. So 2021/22 accounts cover costs and income for the two races which took place in the financial year. Donations of £54,550 were made during the year. The accounts show a deficit for the year of £48,884. However to set against this deficit the Trustees agreed to carry forward the surplus generated in 2020 FY (£35,888) and also the surplus from the 2021 FY (£2,536). Wilmslow Half Marathon (Registered Charity CC 1158220) 2 ## **Financial policies** ## **Reserves** The Wilmslow Half marathon maintains a reserve account of £60,000. The trustees believe this is sufficient to cover costs incurred if the event has to be cancelled or postponed at short notice. ## **Funding** The charity’s income comes from two sources: - **Entry fees paid by competitors** , entry fees received during for the 2022 race were £98,650. - **Sponsorship by local organisations,** provided £14,500 income. ## **Statement of Trustees responsibilities** The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records that accurately disclose the financial position of the charity. The accounting records are maintained by the Treasurer who is a member of the organising committee. The trustees are responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
