Cyflwyniad Yr Is-Lywydd I’r Cyfarfod Cyffredinol Blynyddol

Noswaith dda, a chroeso i bawb.

Mae’n anrhydedd cael cyflwyno’r Adroddiad Blynyddol hwn eleni ar ran yr Athro Emerita Deirdre Beddoe, sydd bellach yn ddifrifol wael. Trueni na fyddai pethau’n wahanol. Gallai Deirdre fod wedi ein croesawu yn ei dull brwdfrydig a dihafal ei hun. Roedd hi mor falch o’r Archif, y bu iddi hi, a’i ffrind annwyl Ursula Masson, ei sefydlu. Byddent ill dwy wrth eu boddau gyda’r gwaith y mae’r Archif wedi ei gyflawni dros y blynyddoedd, a’r parch a enynnwyd ym meysydd hanes Cymru a hanes menywod.

Eleni, mae Archif Menywod Cymru / Women’s Archive Wales wedi cwblhau’n gampus ei phrosiect ymchwil mawr diweddaraf, sef hanes menywod ym maes chwaraeon yng Nghymru. Rydym yn ddiolchgar iawn am gefnogaeth ariannol Cronfa Dreftadaeth y Loteri Genedlaethol, sydd unwaith eto, wedi ein galluogi i ymchwilio a dathlu llwyddiannau menywod, nad oedd wedi cael bron unrhyw gydnabyddiaeth, ym myd y campau yng Nghymru.

Yn eu holl waith, gydol y flwyddyn, mae eich Ymddiriedolwyr a’r Pwyllgor wedi cadw at ganllawiau'r Comisiwn Elusennau i roi buddiannau cyhoeddus, a’n nod allweddol i ymchwilio hanes menywod yng Nghymru, hyrwyddo gwybodaeth a diogelu tystiolaeth ddogfennol yr hanes hwn.

Felly, croeso i’r Cyfarfod Blynyddol hwn. Gadewch i ni edrych ymlaen at flwyddyn arall o lwyddiannau i’n mudiad. Dymuniadau gorau i chi i gyd.

Diolch yn fawr.

Vice-President’s Introduction To The Annual General Meeting

Good evening to you all.

It is my honour to introduce this year’s Annual General Meeting on behalf of Emerita Professor Deirdre Beddoe, who is now seriously ill. If only things could be different, Deirdre might have welcomed us herself with all her warmth and panache. She was so proud of the Archive, which she helped to found together with her dear friend, Ursula Masson. They would both be delighted by the work the Archive has undertaken over the years, and the respect it has achieved in the worlds of Welsh history and women’s history.

This year, Archif Menywod Cymru / Women’s Archive Wales has triumphantly completed its latest major research project, the history of women in sport in Wales. We are hugely grateful for the financial support of the Heritage Lottery Fund who, once again, has enabled us to research and celebrate the achievements of sportswomen in Wales, some of whom were hitherto very little recognised.

2

In all their work throughout the year, your Trustees and the Committee have observed the Charity Commission’s guidance on giving public benefit, and our key aims of researching women’s history in Wales and promoting the knowledge and preserving the documentary evidence of this history.

So, welcome to this Annual General Meeting. Let us look forward to another year of achievement for our organisation. My very good wishes to you all.

Thank you.

Jenny Sabine

Adroddiad y Cadeirydd: Ebrill 2024 i Ebrill 2025

Mae wedi bod yn anrhydedd ac yn bleser bod yn Gadeirydd Archif Menywod Cymru - Women’s Archive Wales (AMCWAW) am y ddwy flynedd ddiwethaf. Mae’r adroddiad hwn yn trafod y cyfnod rhwng Ebrill 2024 a Mawrth 2025 ac rwy’n ddiolchgar iawn i Ddeiliaid Swyddi ac Aelodau’r Pwyllgor am yr holl gefnogaeth a dderbyniais i yn ystod y flwyddyn ddiwethaf, blwyddyn sydd wedi bod yn un hynod o brysur a gwerthfawr i’r Archif.

Menywod a Chwaraeon: Cymru / Women and Sport: Wales

Yn Hydref 2023, derbyniodd AMCWAW grant sylweddol gan Gronfa Dreftadaeth y Loteri Genedlaethol i wneud prosiect a fyddai yn cofnodi hanes Menywod a Chwaraeon yng Nghymru. Aeth y prosiect ati i ffilmio hanesion 60 o gyn-chwaraewragedd o ystod eang o gampau; i ymchwilio ac ysgrifennu bywgraffiadau 30 cyn-chwaraewraig sydd bellach wedi marw ac i gasglu, sganio a chatalogio lluniau a dogfennau sy’n ymwneud â phob math o gampau cymunedol, ysgol, coleg a thimau eraill i’w rhoi ar wefan Casgliad y Werin Cymru.

Arweinydd ysbrydoledig y prosiect hwn yw Catrin Stevens ac mae’r prosiect wedi llwyddo y tu hwnt i bob disgwyliad, a bydd yn dod i ben ym mis Rhagfyr 2025 gydag Arddangosfa yn Sain Ffagan: Amgueddfa Werin Cymru. Mae Catrin Edwards a Tash Horton wedi recordio a ffilmio cyfweliadau ar ran y prosiect ac mae Wendy Evans wedi bod yn Swyddog Ariannol y prosiect. Gellir gweld nifer o glipiau o’r cyfweliadau hyn ar ein Gwefan ac mae AMCWAW yn ddiolchgar iawn i bawb sydd wedi cyfrannu mewn unrhyw ffordd at y fenter bwysig hon. Gwelir yma ddwy chwaraewraig a gafodd eu cyfweld: Lisa Pudner (pŵer-godi) and Lynne Thomas (criced a hoci). Bydd adroddiad terfynol y prosiect hwn yn ymddangos yn yr Adroddiad Blynyddol y flwyddyn nesaf.

Eisteddfod Genedlaethol 2024

Cynhaliwyd darlith flynyddol Archif Menywod Cymru yn Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru Rhondda Cynon Taf ym Mhontypridd ym Mhabell y Cymdeithasau 2 ar ddydd Gwener 9fed Awst 2024. Teitl y cyflwyniad oedd ‘Menywod y Talcen Caled / Remarkable Valleys’ Women’ ac roedd yn dathlu bywydau menywod ardal RhCT. Siaradodd Jill Evans am fywyd Annie Powell (Comiwnydd ac Ymgyrchydd), Dr Beth Thomas am Dr Ceinwen Tomos (Ieithydd) a Dr. Elin Jones am Elizabeth Miles (Entrepreneur). Fel bob amser, roedd y Babell dan ei sang wrth i ni glywed am fywydau’r menywod rhyfeddol hyn. Roeddem yn falch iawn hefyd i Dr Sian Rhiannon Williams gael ei hurddo yng Ngorsedd y Beirdd yn yr Eisteddfod, yn ogystal â’r Athro Jane Aaron, un o’n cefnogwyr mwyaf pybyr. Yn ystod yr Eisteddfod

hefyd lansiwyd y gyfrol ‘Gwir Gofnod o Gyfnod’ (Setting the Record Straight). Mae’r llyfr yn benllanw prosiect pwysig iawn yr ymgymerodd AMCWAW ag ef i ddiogelu lleisiau a phrofiadau menywod ym maes gwleidyddiaeth yn y Senedd, ers Datganoli. Golygwyd y gyfrol gan Swyddogion y Prosiect, Catrin Edwards a Kate Sullivan, a’i chyhoeddi gan Wasg Honno ddiwedd Mehefin 2024. Rydym yn dra diolchgar i Ferched y Wawr am ganiatáu i ni ddefnyddio’u huned, a oedd wedi ei haddurno’n briodol iawn â murluniau o fenywod dylanwadol Rhondda Cynon Taf, ar gyfer lansio’r llyfr. Roeddem yn ffodus hefyd fod Helen Mary Jones, cyn-Aelod o’r Senedd wedi dod atom i gefnogi’r fenter a phwysleisio ei harwyddocâd. Eglurodd Catrin Stevens sut y datblygwyd y prosiect a’i gynnal er gwaethaf heriau pandemig Cofid a diolchodd i Gronfa Dreftadaeth y Loteri Genedlaethol a Llywodraeth Cymru am eu cefnogaeth ariannol. Darllenwyd detholiad o’r llyfr gan Mari Stevens a Claire Roberts.

Cynhadledd Flynyddol, Hydref 2024

Cynhaliwyd ein seithfed Gynhadledd Flynyddol ar hugain ym Mhrifysgol Bangor yn Hydref 2024. Hoffem ddiolch yn arbennig i Shan Robinson a’i chyd-aelodau ym mhwyllgor gogledd Cymru am drefnu’r digwyddiad hwn ac am y croeso cynnes a gawsom gan y Brifysgol. Roedd dros 50 o fynychwyr yno a rhaglen lawn ar gyfer dau ddiwrnod y digwyddiad. Un o’r uchafbwyntiau, fel bob blwyddyn, oedd cyflwyniadau ymgeiswyr Bwrsariaeth Avril Rolph. Roedd pum ymgeisydd: Polly Brewster, Joelle Gorno, Fiona Grey-Davies, Siobhan Hayes a Judith Tulfer. Roedd tasg y beirniaid yn anodd ond rhannwyd y fwrsariaeth rhwng Polly Brewster am ei phapur ‘Sex, race and gender: what a cross-dressing prostitute can tell us about fin de siècle South Wales’ a Judith Tufler am bapur am ‘Agency and Access: Women, Written Charms and the Purchase of Magical Protection in Mid Wales, 1840-1939.’

Darganfod Hanes Menywod yn Eich Cymuned

Efallai y cofiwch fod y fenter hon yn cynnig grantiau bychain i grwpiau sydd eisiau darganfod hanes menywod yn eu cymunedau. Rwy’n falch iawn dweud bod AMCWAW wedi gallu cyfrannu (mewn ffordd fach) at waith grŵp menywod Aberhonddu ar Gwenllian Morgan, Maeres gyntaf Cymru. Mae’r fenter hon yn dal ar agor i grwpiau sydd â diddordeb.

Darlith Goffa Ursula Masson

Cynhelir y ddarlith hon bob blwyddyn i gofio un o sylfaenwyr gwreiddiol AMCWAW, Ursula Masson. Cynhelir y digwyddiad gan Ganolfan Astudiaethau Rhywedd yng Nghymru ym Mhrifysgol De Cymru lle’r arferai Ursula weithio. Eleni traddodwyd y ddarlith gan nith Ursula, Helen Molyneux, un o arweinwyr ymgyrch Monumental Welsh Women . Sefydlwyd yr ymgyrch hon i ymateb i’r ffaith nad oedd, tua phum mlynedd yn ôl, yr un cerflun cyhoeddus i goffáu llwyddiannau menywod real o Gymru. Penderfynodd Monumental Welsh Women unioni’r cam hwn trwy gomisiynu pum cerflun o bum Cymraes mewn pum mlynedd. Mae’r ymgyrchu wedi llwyddo eisoes i sicrhau cerfluniau i goffáu Betty Campbell yng Nghaerdydd, Elaine Morgan yn Aberpennar, Cranogwen yn Llangrannog, ac Arglwyddes Rhondda yng Nghasnewydd. Rhannodd darlith Helen hanesion ysbrydoledig y menywod hyn a’u hymgais i’w coffáu. At hyn diweddarodd hi ni ar y cynnydd tuag at gael y cerflun olaf yn y gyfres: i Elizabeth Andrews, swffragydd a Threfnydd Cymru dros y Blaid Lafur. Yr oedd, fel bob blwyddyn, yn noson hyfryd, a wnaethpwyd yn fwy arbennig fyth gan y ffaith mai aelod o deulu Ursula oedd yn traddodi.

Darlithoedd Zŵm 2024-5

Hon oedd ein pumed gyfres o ddarlithoedd yn cael eu cynnal trwy gyfrwng Zŵm dros fisoedd y gaeaf ac maent wedi bod yn hynod boblogaidd. Caroline Fairclough sefydlodd y darlithoedd hyn ac mae wedi trefnu rhaglen ardderchog bob blwyddyn. Fel y gallwch ddychmygu mae hyn yn cymryd cryn amser ac ymdrech ac rydym yn ddiolchgar iawn iddi. At hyn, rydym bob amser yn ddiolchgar iawn i’n siaradwyr am eu cefnogaeth.

Menter Ysgolion y Dreftadaeth Gymreig

Bob blwyddyn , mae AMCWAW yn noddi gwobr gan Fenter Ysgolion y Dreftadaeth Gymreig. Bwriad y Fenter yw annog pobl ifanc, o bob oedran, cefndiroedd a gallu i gymryd mwy o ddiddordeb yn eu treftadaeth Gymreig. Enillydd gwobr AMCWAW eleni oedd Ysgol Wirfoddol Pen-boyr, sir Gaerfyrddin, am eu prosiect ‘Cymru: Cenedl fwyaf Llythrennog y Byd’. Gweithiodd y disgyblion gyda nifer o arbenigwyr lleol i ymchwilio effaith y Parch. Griffith Jones yn hyrwyddo addysg yng Nghymru trwy sefydlu ysgolion cylchynol. Defnyddion nhw gyfleusterau Amgueddfa’r Sir a’r Llyfrgell Genedlaethol ac ymwelon nhw â nifer o safleoedd hanesyddol gan gynnwys man geni Griffith Jones. Fel bob amser, roedd hi’n bleser bod yn rhan o’r Fenter hon.

Placiau Porffor Cymru

Mae AMCWAW yn parhau i fod â chysylltiadau cryfion â menter Placiau Porffor Cymru a chawn adroddiadau rheolaidd gan Sian Rhiannon Williams sydd ar ein pwyllgor. Mae aelodau’r Archif wedi cefnogi digwyddiadau yn ystod y flwyddyn 2024-2025, gan gynnwys dadorchuddio placiau i Dorothy Miles (Rhyl), Bernice Rubens (Caerdydd), Minnie Pallister (Bryn Mawr) ac Amy Dilwyn (Abertawe).

Yr Archif Wleidyddol Gymreig

Fel Cadeirydd AMCWAW, mynychais Gyfarfod Blynyddol yr Archif Wleidyddol Gymreig yn Aberystwyth yn Hydref 2024. Un o’i phrosiectau cyfredol yw ‘Dad-goloneiddio yr Archifau’ sy’n cael ei harwain gan Miidong P. Daloeng, Swyddog Prosiect Dadgoloneiddio’r Archifau. Mae’r prosiect hwn wedi esblygu o Gynllun Gweithredu Gwrthhiliaeth Cymru sy’n hyrwyddo a dathlu amrywiaeth yng Nghymru. Mae hwn bob amser yn ddigwyddiad diddorol gyda chynrychiolwyr o ledled Cymru ac yn adlewyrchu’r gwerth a roddir ar waith AMCWAW.

Deiseb Heddwch Menywod Cymru at Fenywod America 1923-24

Mae pawb yn gyfarwydd bellach â hanes y Ddeiseb Heddwch, gyda’i 390,296 llofnod, a gasglwyd gan fenywod ar hyd a lled Cymru yn gofyn i fenywod America gefnogi ‘trosglwyddo i’r oesau a ddêl fyd di-ryfel yn dreftadaeth dragwyddol’ a phwyso ar eu gwlad i ymuno â Chynghrair y Cenhedloedd Unedig. Mae AMCWAW wedi bod yn ymwneud yn agos â’r prosiect hwn ac mae’r ddeiseb a’r gist wedi eu dychwelyd i Gymru. Mae’r gwaith o drawsysgrifio yn parhau!

Gwaith y Pwyllgor

Ceir aelodau o ledled y wlad ar y pwyllgor ac mae pob un ohonynt yn daer dros ddiogelu a hyrwyddo hanes menywod yng Nghymru. Rydym yn cyfarfod bob tua chwe wythnos fel

pwyllgor llawn ond mae sawl is-bwyllgor hefyd yn ymwneud â phrosiectau penodol ac mae sawl un o’n haelodau yn mynychu cyfarfodydd mudiadau eraill i gynrychioli AMCWAW. Mae aelodau eraill AMCWAW yn ymuno â’n his-bwyllgorau gan fod ganddynt wybodaeth arbenigol mewn digwyddiadau arbennig neu maen nhw’n gallu ein helpu i gynllunio ar gyfer digwyddiadau arbennig fel ein Cyfarfod Blynyddol. Rydym yn ddiolchgar iawn am eu harweiniad a’u mewnwelediad. Fel bob amser, hoffwn dynnu eich sylw yn arbennig at waith diflino ein swyddogion, golygydd ein cylchlythyr ac arweinwyr ein prosiectau. Rwy’n siwr y gallwch werthfawrogi lefel yr ymrwymiad a’r llafur sydd ei angen i drefnu digwyddiadau amrywiol, y cylchlythyr chwarterol a’r prosiectau yr ydym ni wedi eu cychwyn neu yr ydym yn rhan ohonynt.

I orffen, hoffem ddiolch i chi am eich cefnogaeth i’n digwyddiadau a’ch gwaith caled yn dweud hanes menywod yng Nghymru. Mae’n stori ryfeddol ac, yn wir , yn un ddi-derfyn. Daliwch ati!

Chair’s report from April 2024 to April 2025

It has been an honour and a pleasure to be the Chair of Archif Menywod Cymru - Women’s Archive Wales (AMCWAW) for the past two years. This report covers the period from April 2024 to March 2025 and I am very grateful to the Office Holders and the Committee Members for all the support I have received over the past year which has proven to be an extremely busy and rewarding one for the Archive.

Menywod a Chwaraeon: Cymru / Women and Sport: Wales

In the Autumn of 2023, AMCWAW was given a substantial grant by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to undertake a project recording the history of Women and Sport in Wales. This project set out to record on film the histories of 60 former sportswomen from a wide range of sports; to compile and write the biographies of 30 former sportswomen who have now died; and to collect, scan and catalogue photographs and documents associated with all kinds of communal, school, college and other teams to be placed on the People Collection Wales’ website.

Catrin Stevens has been the inspirational leader of this project which has exceeded all expectations, and which will conclude in December 2025 with an Exhibition being held at St. Fagan’s National Museum of History. Catrin Edwards and Tash Horton have conducted and filmed interviews on behalf of the project and Wendy Evans has been the Financial Manager of the project. Clips of a number of these interviews can be viewed on our Website and AMCWAW sincerely thanks all those who have been involved in any way in this important venture. Shown below are two of the sportswomen who have been interviewed: Lisa Pudner (power-lifting) and Lynne Thomas (cricket and hockey). The final report of this project will be given in next year’s Annual Report.

The National Eisteddfod 2024

The Rhondda Cynon Taf Eisteddfod at Pontypridd hosted the Women’s Archive Wales annual lecture in Societies’ Tent 2 on Friday 9th August 2024. The presentation was entitled ‘Menywod y Talcen Caled’ which celebrated the lives of women from the RCT area. Jill Evans spoke about the life of Annie Powell (Communist and Campaigner), Dr. Beth Thomas about Dr. Ceinwen Tomos (Linguist) and Dr. Elin Jones about Elizabeth Miles (entrepreneur). As always, the lecture room was full to capacity as we heard about the lives of these remarkable women. I am also pleased to say that Dr Sian Rhiannon Williams was invested into the Gorsedd of Bards at the Eisteddfod as was Professor Jane Aaron, one of our staunchest supporters. The Eisteddfod also saw the launch of ‘Gwir Gofnod o Gyfnod’ (Setting the Record Straight). This book is the culmination of the very important project undertaken by AMCWAW to capture the voices and experiences of women politicians in the Senedd since Devolution. The volume was edited by the Project Officers, Catrin Edwards and Kate Sullivan, and published by Honno Press at the end of June 2024. We are very grateful that Merched y Wawr allowed us to use its tent, decorated appropriately with murals of famous influential Rhondda Cynon Taf women, for the launch of the book. We were also fortunate that Helen Mary Jones, former Senedd Member, came along to support the venture and to emphasise its significance. Catrin Stevens explained how the project was developed and sustained in spite of the challenges of the Covid pandemic and thanked both the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Welsh Government for their financial support. Extracts from the interviews in the book were read by Mari Stevens and Claire Roberts.

Annual Conference, October 2024

Our twenty-seventh Annual Conference was held in Bangor University in October 2024. We especially wish to thank Shan Robinson and her fellow committee members in North Wales for the organisation of this event and for the warm welcome that we received at the University. There were over 50 delegates and a very full programme was put together for the two days. One of the highlights, as it is every year, was the presentation of the Avril Rolph Bursary. There were five entrants who all gave excellent presentations; Polly Brewster, Joelle Gorno, Fiona Grey-Davies, Siobhan Hayes a Judith Tulfer. It was difficult decision for the judges but the award was shared between Polly Brewster for her paper entitled ‘Sex, race and gender: what a cross-dressing prostitute can tell us about fin de siècle South Wales’ and Judith Tufler for a paper on ‘Agency and Access: Women, Written Charms and the Purchase of Magical Protection in Mid Wales, 1840-1939.’

Discovering Women’s History in Your Community

You may recall that this initiative offers small grants to groups who want to explore the history of women in their locality. I am delighted to say that AMCWAW has been able to contribute (in a small way) to the Brecon’s women’s group’s work on Gwenllian Morgan, the first female Mayor in Wales. This initiative is still available to groups who may be interested.

Ursula Masson Memorial Lecture

Every year this lecture is held in memory of one of our founder members, Ursula Masson. The event was hosted by the University of South Wales's Centre for Gender Studies in Wales where Ursula worked. This year’s lecture was given by Ursula’s niece , Helen Molyneux, who has been one of the leaders of the Monumental Welsh Women campaign. This campaign set out to respond to the fact that, just over five years ago, there was a complete absence of public statues commemorating the achievements of real Welsh women. Monumental Welsh Women determined to rectify this by commissioning five statues of five Welsh women in five years. The campaign has already succeeded in having monuments erected to Betty Campbell in Cardiff, Elaine Morgan in Mountain Ash, Cranogwen in Llangrannog, and Lady Rhondda in Newport. Helen’s lecture shared the inspirational stories of these women and the quest to commemorate them. She also updated us on the progress towards the fifth and final statue: Elizabeth Andrews, suffragist and Labour Party Women’s Organiser for Wales. It was, as usual, an excellent evening, made all the more special by the fact it was delivered by a member of Ursula’s family.

Zoom Lectures 2024-5

This was our fifth series of lectures held via ZOOM over the winter months and these have proved to be very successful. Caroline Fairclough was the instigator of these lectures and every year she organises an excellent programme. As you may imagine, this takes considerable time and effort and we are so grateful to her. Also, we are always very thankful to our speakers for their support.

The Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative

Every year, AMCWAW sponsors a prize in conjunction with the Welsh Heritage Schools Initiative Awards. The Initiative aims to encourage young people, of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, to take a greater interest in their Welsh heritage. The winner of the AMCWAW award was Ysgol Wirfoddol Penboyr, Carmarthenshire, for their project entitled Wales – The World’s Most Literate Nation.’ Pupils worked with several local experts to explore the impact that the Reverend Griffith Jones had on promoting education in Wales through the establishment of circulating schools. They used the facilities of the county museum and the National Library and visited a few historical sites including the nearby birthplace of Griffith Jones. It was, as always, a pleasure to be part of this initiative.

Purple Plaques Wales

AMCWAW continues to maintain strong links with the Purple Plaques Wales initiative and we regularly receive reports from Sian Rhiannon Williams who is on their committee. Archive members have supported events during the year 2024-2025 and these have included the unveiling of plaques to Dorothy Miles (Rhyl), Bernice Rubens (Cardiff), Minnie Pallister (Bryn Mawr) and Amy Dilwyn (Swansea).

The Welsh Political Archive

As Chair of AMCWAW, I attended the AGM of the Welsh Political Archive in Aberystwyth in October 2024. One of their current projects is ‘Decolonising the Archives,’ which is led by Miidong P. Daloeng, Archives Decolonisation Project Officer, at the National Library of Wales. This project has evolved from the Wales Anti-Racist Action Plan that promotes and celebrates the diversity of Wales. This is always an interesting event with representatives of organisations from all over Wales and reflects the value placed on the work of AMCWAW.

Welsh Women’s Peace Petition to the Women of America 1923-24

Everyone is familiar by now with the story of the Peace Petition, with its 390,296 signatures collected by women from all over Wales asking the women of America to support the cause of a ‘proud heritage of a warless world’ and to put pressure on their country to join the League of Nations Union. AMCWAW has been closely involved with this project and the petition and chest has been returned to Wales. The work of transcribing goes on!

The Work of the Committee

The committee is made up of members from all over the country and every one of them is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the history of the women of Wales. We meet every six weeks or so as a full committee but there are also frequent sub-committees related to specific projects and several of our members attend the meetings of other organisations to represent AMCWAW. We are also joined on our sub-committees by other members of AMCWAW who have specialist knowledge in certain areas or who help us to plan for specific events, such as the Annual Conference. We are very grateful for their guidance and insight. As always, I would like to particularly commend to you the tireless work of our officers, newsletter editor and project leaders. I am sure you can appreciate the level of commitment and hard work that goes into the organisation of various events, the quartly newsletter and the projects which we have initiated or are part of.

Finally, may we thank you for your support of our events and your dedicated work to tell the story of the women of Wales. It is a wonderful story and, indeed, a never ending one. Keep up the good work!

Yn ystod y flwyddyn gwariwyd arian i gefnogi prosiectau AMCWAW; rhoddwyd Gwobrau o Gronfa Goffa Avril Rolph a Menter Ysgolion y Dreftadaeth Gymreig.

Rydym wedi derbyn ail daliad Grant y Loteri Genedlaethol ar gyfer Prosiect Menywod a Chwaraeon: Cymru ac mae’r prosiect hwn bellach yn dirwyn i ben. Hoffwn ddiolch yn arbennig i Catrin Stevens am ei harbenigedd a’i gwaith gweinyddol gyda Grant y Loteri.

The Treasurer – Presenting the Annual Accounts for Formal Approval

I am pleased to be able to present my third Treasurer’s Annual Report to you. I am grateful to Carmarthen based Accounts, Clay Shaw Butler, for auditing the accounts for us. I would also like to thank the Committee and WAW/AMC members for their support in making my role an easy and enjoyable one.

As you can see, we have a healthy bank balance. The Unrestricted Funds, which support administration of our charity, came largely from membership subscriptions. Gift Aid is also important, and I would ask anyone who hasn’t signed up to this, and is able to, to please contact us.

During the year, money has been spent in support of WAW/AMC Projects; awards were made from the Avril Rolph Memorial Fund and The Welsh History School’s Initiative.

We have received the second payment of the National Lottery Grant for the Welsh Women in Sport Project, and this Project is now nearing completion. I would particularly like to thank Catrin Stevens for all her expertise and administrative work regarding the Lottery Grant.

Wendy Evans - WAW/AMC Treasurer

Adroddiad y Swyddog Casgliadau Ebrill 2024 – Mawrth 2025

Mae datgelu a hyrwyddo gosod Cofnodion yn ymwneud â hanes menywod yn parhau yn nod allweddol i Archif Menywod Cymru. Mae Archif Menywod Cymru yn croesawu pobl yn cysylltu â ni i drafod rhoi eu casgliadau ar adnau. Gall y rhain amrywio o gofnodion personol i eiddo mudiadau. Nid ydym yn storio cofnodion materol ein hunain ond yn cynorthwyo pobl i roi eu Cofnodion ar adnau mewn gwasanaethau Archifau ar draws Cymru. Gallwn helpu trwy eu rhoi mewn cyswllt â’r gwasanaeth priodol a fydd yn darparu cyngor wedyn o safbwynt adneuo posibl y defnydd.

At hyn rydym yn rhoi cofnodion Archif Menywod Cymru ei hun, megis Cofnodion cyfarfodydd Pwyllgor, ar adnau yn Archifau Morgannwg. Trosglwyddir a chedwir ein Cofnodion yn awr, os cawsant eu creu yn ddigidol, fel ffeiliau digidol.

Yn ystod y flwyddyn mae AMCWAW wedi ymateb i rychwant o ymholiadau ymchwil gan bobl yn chwilio am ffynonellau ar gyfer traethodau ymchwil, ymchwil ar unigolion yng Nghymru ac mewn gwledydd eraill, ymchwil hanes teulu, rôl archifau cymunedol, ymchwil ar gyfer cyhoeddiadau, a‘r defnydd o ddelweddau oddi ar Gasgliad y Werin Cymru. Rydym bob amser yn ceisio cyfeirio ymchwilwyr at ddefnydd yn y gwasanaeth Archifau sydd wedi ei roi ar adnau dan AMCWAW lle mae’n bodoli, ond os na, yn fwy cyffredinol i ffynonellau a all fod yn fwy perthnasol i’w hymchwil.

Gellir gweld oriel o rai casgliadau ar ein Gwefan: https://www.archifmenywodcymru.org/cym/ein_casgliadau

Collections Officer Report April 2024 - March 2025

Uncovering and promoting the deposit of records relating to women’s history remains a key aim of Women’s Archive Wales. Women’s Archive Wales welcomes being contacted by people regarding the possible deposit of their collections. These can range from personal records to those of organisations. We do not store physical records ourselves but encourage people to deposit their records in Archive services across Wales. We can help to ensure they are put in contact with the appropriate service who will then provide advice regarding the possible deposit of the material.

We also deposit Women’s Archive Wales own records, such as Committee meeting minutes, in Glamorgan Archives. Our records, if created digitally, are now transferred and stored as digital files.

During the year AMC/WAW has responded to a variety of research queries from people seeking sources for thesis research, research on individuals in Wales and in other countries, family history research, the role of community archives, research for publications and for the use of images on People’s Collection Wales. We always endeavour to point researchers to material in the Archive services deposited under AMC/WAW where it exists but if not, more generally to sources they may find relevant to their research.
