TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT

The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2021.

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

The objects of the charity as set out in its trust deed are:

To relieve sickness and to preserve and protect good health for the public benefit by supporting research into finding a cure for cancer throughout the world and such other means as the trustees in their absolute discretion deem fit.

The charity achieves its objects by the awarding of grants to UK and overseas cancer research organisations. In 2021 2 grants of £25,000 were awarded. Decisions on who to award grants to is based on assessment by the trustees following an application by an organisation. Information requested includes: brief history of the organisation, its work main scientific achievements, funding and donors, financial and decision making procedures and the research objectives. Grants are made on an annual basis without multi year commitments.

PUBLIC BENEFIT

The trustees confirm that we have paid due regard to the Charity Commission guidance on public benefit reporting in deciding what activities the charity should undertake.

CLIMBERS AGAINST CANCER TRADING LIMITED

The trustees of the charity own, on behalf of the charity, 100% of the share capital in Climbers Against Cancer Trading Limited, company number 09197060. This company raises funds for the charity by buying and selling branded and other clothing and climbing accessories. During 2021 sales amounted to £57,440 (2020: £46,597). The profits of the company are donated to the charity. In 2021 this amounted to £17,249.

At the year end the amount owed by the company was:

The loan is provided by the charity for working capital, to buy stock etc. A formal loan agreement is now in place with interest charged by the charity.

A review of the governance relationship between the two entities is being undertaken, including appointing an independent director of the company.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

The financial statements are set out on pages 6 and 7. At the year end bank balances amounted to £133,322. Further grants have been awarded since the year end. When the CIO (see below) starts a reserves policy will be formally established.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT

The charity is governed by its trust deed dated 24[th] July 2014. Trustees are appointed as required. A Charitable Incorporated Organisation has now been established to take over the activities of this charity. Meetings of trustees are held as needed.

Risk management

The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.

I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31[st] December 2021.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe:

Unrestricted funds are those that can be expended at the discretion of the trustees in the furtherance of the objects of the charity

The charity is not liable to tax on its charitable activities.

The charity is not registered for VAT. Irrecoverable VAT is included in the expense to which it relates.

No remuneration nor expenses were paid to trustees or any persons connected with them during the year or previous year.
