Governing 6 [th] July 2014: Chiltern Music Academy (CMA) is a Charitable Incorporated

Sing & String, and to encourage the uptake of rarer instruments (Find Your
Forte).
Designated funds have been established to reflect the Trustees’ policy of

| Objects of the charity |
To advance the musical education of children and young people, including but not limited to the provision of orchestras, choirs and other ensembles so that they can rehearse and perform to the public; and to advance, improve and maintain public education in, and appreciation of, music through the presentation of public concerts or in other ways as decided by the trustees. The Trustees have paid due regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance when considering CMA’s activities. |
|---|---|
| Objectives and activities |
CMA sets out to give all students, irrespective of their background, the opportunity to play and perform with passion. Our objective is to ensure the highest quality of music experience delivered in a positive and supportive atmosphere. CMA was founded to provide music ensemble, orchestral and choral opportunities. All students have the chance to play their chosen instruments with others and therefore extend their playing experiences and stretch their abilities so that they can fulfil their potential. Instruments are loaned to students where required, and at a subsidised rate to support families as appropriate. |
| Specific objectives for the year ending August 2025 |
To develop and expand the Find Your Forte programme, following the successful bid for grant funding for 3 years of the project. To develop and expand outreach to local schools. To compete in local and national festivals appropriate to our ensembles. To undertake an international tour with our senior ensembles. |
| Review of charitable activities undertaken and achievements for the year ending August 2025 |
Throughout the year, CMA continued to provide weekly music-making activities for around 400 children and young people aged 3-19. The Springers’ curriculum was reviewed, improving music foundation for the very young at CMA. A ‘Springers Party’ brought 3-7 year olds up close to the orchestra for an immersive musical experience. Fundraising successes underpinned fundamental orchestral teaching at CMA, enabling the organisation to plan for growth. 50 children started their instrumental journey on our Find Your Forte program, designed to make starting an instrument accessible for children from low income families. Symphony Orchestra gave a magnificent performance at the Music for Youth festival, making it through to the finals in Birmingham Symphony Hall. The Senior Wind Quintet won first prize in the under 16’s class of the Maidenhead Festival. A very successful senior tour to Czechia for 97 senior students rounded off the year. Outreach into schools was intensified with the continued expansion of Sing and String - 180 year 2 and 3 children played violin for a term, providing hands-on musical experience to children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to learn. |

| Schools joined together in the ‘Big Noise’ super-sized orchestra and year 6 students came together for a ‘Sing Perform Inspire’ vocal workshop in October. In January, a ‘Film Music From scratch’ workshop drew more experienced instrumentalists from local schools.A CPD workshop was delivered for teachers, to improve and develop their conducting and rehearsal management. |
|
|---|---|
| Financial Review | Membership continued to grow and generous donations have helped us to continue offering an excellent programme of musical education and activities. The Rothschild Foundation provided significant grant funding in support of the Find Your Forte programme, enabling recruitment, resourcing and delivery for three years. The grant also increased our bursary fund. CMA were successful in the Carousel Buses ‘Brand a Bus’ competition, winning marketing opportunities which will be accessed next year. At the end of the year, 31 August 2025, the funds carried forward were £308,314 of which £146,550 were general unrestricted and £70,000 are designated for future costs and reserves, the remainder are restricted. |
| Volunteers | Parents, friends and relatives of CMA members raise money through the operation of a social venue for other parents to have a coffee and a chat, they raise money during concerts by selling tickets and providing interval snacks. Volunteers also provide invaluable support for the musical activities and the administration and leadership of CMA. The Trustees are as ever, extremely grateful to all volunteers who help run CMA. |
