FROM OUR CHAIR
Like everyone Team Verrico has spent the last year or so operating in a world overshadowed and occasionally dominated by Coronavirus. This report looks back to a period before the pandemic and our response as Coronavirus began to make an impact on our lives in 2021. In many ways, thanks to our wonderful supporters and fundraisers, the fundamental mission of Team Verrico continued unchanged through the 2020/2021 financial year. We raised over £125k and used these funds to support over 100 applicants facing really difficult times as a result of cancer. We also continued to provide funding to Professor Claire Lewis and her team at the University of Sheffield to develop new and better treatments for cancer. The support we provide to applicants remains incredibly varied. We continue with our approach of looking to applicants to understand what support will be most effective in helping them. I believe that this open-minded, flexible and responsive approach enables Team Verrico to make the biggest ANNUAL impact with the funds we receive. In relative terms often quite small sums of money can make an enormous difference to people who are facing real difficulty – for example help with childcare or transport to treatment. For other applicants we can provide hope with access to second opinions REPORT and treatment options which would otherwise be out of reach. An aspect of the work that Team Verrico does which has become more pronounced as a result of Coronavirus is the simple act of reaching out to people dealing with cancer. I was incredibly proud of the way we responded to the emergence of the pandemic last year – rapidly stepping up to 2020/21
provide
personal care packs and meals to people who were forced to isolate and shield. The impact of this support goes far beyond the practical. It reminds people that they are not alone and provides hope that, however dark the night, the sun will rise again.
I’m going to end, as I always do, with a thank you to all our volunteers. No-one at Team Verrico gets paid for the time and effort they give. The Trustees and I are incredibly grateful to everyone who helps us to do what we do. Many challenges lie ahead but we can and will face, and overcome, them together. Nicholas Cranfield Chair, Team Verrico

CORPORATE ALLIANCES
We have the privilege of working with a number of organisations that help us achieve our objectives. These alliances have become even more important as the country has endured the Covid-19 pandemic. We wish to say a massive ‘thank you’ to all of them.
We would like to recognize the successful partnership with Forterra who have made a huge contribution to our goals and our visibility with those we might be able to help.
Over the last year, these organisations have included:
Advent of Change
We were proud to be included in the charities supported by Advent of Change, a non-profit organisation creating products that are sold to benefit a range of charities.
National Lottery Community Fund and The Pink Ribbon Foundation
We were proud to be supported by these two organisations following successful funding applications.
The Co-Op, Epworth
Given the links between the charity and Epworth, we were delighted to be supported by the Co-Op Epworth again. Those visiting Epworth may have even had the chance to purchase a Team Verrico cake.

Play Avenue
We were chosen as the supported charity by Play Avenue in Messingham.
Tape2Tape Events
Our strong links to running remained as we were
supported by Tape2Tape events who allowed us to be part of all of their excellent events.
The corporate support and partnerships outlined above have enabled us to continue our fundraising work even in current times. We would like to thank everyone who played a role.
As the pandemic struck in early 2020 we were greatly helped by other organisations in reaching out to those who needed it most.
BAPP Industrial Supplies, Scunthorpe
Our corporate partners at BAPP donated anti-bacterial gel for our Team Verrico personal care packs. With further donations of other essential items we were able to distribute the packs to those who needed them most.
The Pantry 8020
The team at the Pantry donated healthy packed meals which we were able to share with cancer patients in the local area.
7
Over the last year we have been able to distribute 1514 medical supplies / personal care packs / meals / worry dolls and 296 weekly food support packages.

WHAT WE DO WITH YOUR MONEY
It is vital that we use as much of your donations as possible to pursue the key objectives of Team Verrico. By not taking any salaries and minimising administrative costs, we seek to ensure that as much money raised goes towards great causes.
Research
We received a number of requests for research grants and assessed them as a Trustee team to consider their merits, as well as whether they fit within the objectives of the charity. We have benefited from long-term relationships with a range of innovative research organisations. This year we were able to award research grants amounting to £22,091.
Please keep an eye on our social media streams to find out about the latest projects that are underway.
Support
The charity regularly receives requests for support through its website, social media outlets, or through recommendations and word-of-mouth. The requests for support evidence the impact that cancer can have on families, and how your support can make a massive difference:
-
Practical – requests for cleaners, food packages, as well as assistance with travel and childcare costs whilst undergoing cancer treatment;
-
Medical – arranging for second opinions and consultations for those diagnosed with cancer; and
-
Emotional – we provide a counselling service for those diagnosed with cancer, and family members who may also be affected. Team Verrico

HOW WE RAISE MONEY
Since the inception of the charity, it has amazed us as to how ingenious and varied people are when it comes to fundraising. Perhaps the below will give you some ideas?
Team Verrico fundraising started with running and runners branded with ‘Team Verrico’ have appeared across the globe in bright pink outfits.
It is a mark of the diversity and imagination of our
supporters that we simply cannot list every fundraising event within this report. We have also been amazed at the ways our supporters have continued to support us during lockdown. Please keep visiting our social media platforms and website
for the latest news on what people have been doing.
