## **A Year in the life of F2F Lichfeld - April 2021 – March 2022**

## **Chairs opening comments.**

We have attached the accounts developed by our excellent book keeping treasurer and assistant and the auditors report of those accounts along with the activity report.

You will see from the events and activities that have taken place through the period these accounts and report covers we were still strong and grew after the pressures of Covid Lockdowns.

I requested the members and volunteers produce the report to highlight the events that stood out for them rather than me as it is a member led organisation.

I see my role and that of the trustees to support and guide rather than impose.

F2F reopened the middle of April 2021 after the pandemic lockdown. We continued social distancing and using all PPE including masks up until September 21 when we gave the members the choice of wearing masks. In October, our group were moved back to our smaller venue unexpectedly and so masks were made mandatory again due to being in closer proximity of each other. Masks were made optional again in January 2022.

## **April 21**

Although open, F2F continued to hold weekly zoom sessions for members not confident to attend in person. Activities included Zumba exercise, dance classes, quizzes, relaxation and mindfulness as well as the important chats and discussions. We were even able to zoom with members in hospital. We still also continued to run f2f@home, where session and challenges are set online on social media.

## **May 21**

This month we held our first ever Variety Show on Zoom as the members were unable to put on their annual talent show in 2020. It was a huge success with lots of acts either performing on the night or being recorded beforehand and shown on the night.

This, as well as the zoom sessions, were all made possible by funding we had received to buy technology and to be able to teach our members how to use it. This was a huge step forward for our members, some of who

had not used the technology before, and the variety show was proof of how much they had learned.

Our partnership with St Giles Hospice (started in 2020) continued to go from strength to strength. The project “Living, Dying, Remembering: Supporting adults with learning disabilities” had a steering group which included 2 of our members, James and Simon and meetings continued to be held on Zoom.

The group put training together and delivered it to organisations who were interested. Staff from F2F attended the training and it was great to see James and Simon such an important part of the training that was delivered.

## **June and July 21**

The group starting planning for Friends 2 Friends 10 year anniversary in May 2022.

We had lots of outdoor sessions due to great weather and no masks needed outside. Aswell as using gardens at our venue, we also met up at community venues like Beacon Park and our sessions included games, exercise, picnics, and conversations, all of which helped our members mental health and allowed us to meet up with members who were not confident of being at indoor sessions.

## **August 21**

Members planned and participated in our first F2F Olympics which was held in the garden of our community centre venue. Members split into groups of 4 and chose which country they would like to represent, making flags for the opening ceremony. Members chose all sports, made medals and some of the sports equipment (eg discus) and made an Olympic torch for the opening ceremony. Sports included Archery, Discus, Hoopla, Egg and Spoon and lots more. Friends and family came to watch and it was a much needed boost of fun and confidence to all.

This month we were also successful in securing some funding from our local council to help us try and find a venue of our own. This is needed as the charity continues to grow and we have more members wanting to join. We also need to put on another session to accommodate more members. So began our methodical search for an available venue.

## **September 21**

We took part in our annual sponsored bike ride at Shobnall leisure centre. They have all inclusive bikes so every member could join in and ride safely around a 400m track. This is a great event, our members get so much from it personally and also managed to raise £2,560 for their own group.

Some members took part in research into the wellbeing and self esteem of people with a learning disability with UCL (university London). It was very successful, and they were thanked with a gift voucher of their choice.

## **October 21**

In this month we re-established the History group and so often people with complex disabilities are assumes to have little interest in historical events and this group supported by an excellent Volunteer have identified virtue in the history of the historical town.

## **November 21**

The members began planning for the upcoming awards night in December and made lots of great things.

## **December 21**

We had two students from Keele University start placements with us. They stayed for 3 months and were excellent. We hope to have more this year.

We had to cancel our awards night due to covid cases rising but kept the members busy with things like our wreath making workshops. We also were invited to record a Christmas song at a local recording studio and, whilst we were singing, the members were surprised by a visit from celebrities AJ Pritchard and his brother Curtis. It was such a brilliant day that boosted everyone up after the disappointment of not having their awards night.

During this time, we also helped with organising covid boosters for our members, supporting them at social work meetings and gave buddy calls and support to those still staying in.

## **January 2022**

We started the new year with a visit to watch the pantomime at the local theatre as always.

Preparations for our 10-year anniversary events took priority as we restarted our sessions

## **February 22**

This month we held our “Safety in the community” workshops. This consisted of 3 half day workshops – one male, one female and one mixed. The workshops covered keeping safe within the local community and online. It was completely interactive using scenarios and roleplay, videos and discussion and was a huge success.

Members learned how to develop positive relationships, gained understanding of their own feelings and feelings of others, and did activities that explored boundaries and how to address inappropriate behaviour. They also learned safety at the cashpoint machine, bag safety and safety from scams online and by phone.

February always sees our annual quiz written and hosted by our member, Simon. It was great to be back doing it at the social club. This is great fun and also raised over £150 for F2F.

## **March 22**

This month we were joined by Sarah and Tim who helped us write our own song to highlight our need for our own venue – searches up to this point had been unable to find anything suitable.

The members wrote all the words themselves and Tim put it to music. Tim and Sarah came and did some practice sessions with us all and then recorded it professionally. We then chose photos to go on a video that was put together by Tim.

This song will be performed as much as possible by our members to raise awareness.

Burton April 21 – March 22

April, May, June we remained closed.

Our first session back was July 13th.

During July and august, we did our community burton model project- from this came lots of ideas of places we could visit and contact for publicity of our group.

In September we attended the bike ride at Shobnall, everyone who took part had a great time and was a real confidence boost.

October, we attended the Talent show at Lichfield and a couple of burton members took part, a great night!

November, we planned and had our first event of mastermind, members took part and I had some brilliant feedback from the audience, we all had a great time.

In December we opened a second day, a Friday and started our health and wellbeing course with Aimee, we started off, as it was so close to Christmas with making tree decorations. The course continued every Friday up until March.

January saw the start of the 10 year anniversary prep which continued over the next few months, a lot of hard work went into these sessions- and it was great to celebrate with the Lichfield group later on in the year.

## **Independent Examiner's Report**

I report on my examination of the accounts of Friends 2 Friends for the year ended 31[st] March 2022, as supplied by the Treasurer. I have completed my examination. Although there were a few formulae errors within the backup spreadsheets, these have now been resolved. I can therefore confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in any material respect:

- 1 - accounting records were not kept correctly or

- 2 - the accounts do not accord with the accounting records.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
