retaining hybrid options to enable as many
trustees to attend as possible. Meetings
were held at the Museum of the Home and
Berwick Museum.
SHCG Chair advocated on behalf of
various museums and social history
collections facing cuts or closures,
communicating with Cardiff Council, Bristol
Council, Burton-on-Trent Council (including
a follow up phone call with the Head of
Regeneration), and Cornwall Council.
SHCG is represented on the Subject
Specialist Networks Consortium by the
Chair who has attended meetings online
throughout the year. This continues to
strengthen relationships and build support
between SSNs in sharing resources, best
practice and co-hosting training and events.
SHCG will continue to be represented in
this forum.

November 2022, with articles from various
sector practitioners and institutions
including Museum of London, Aberdeen

lockdown, continues to be offered to
support those who may otherwise be
unable to join SHCG.

online meetup has continued to be well

discuss and support each other with
problems, projects or anything else related
to colonial histories and other potentially
challenging topics in their work.

Independent examiner’s report on the accounts

31 July 2023

To the Members of the Social History Curators Group on the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2023.

This report is made solely to the society's members, as a body. Our examination work has been undertaken so that we might state to the society's members those matters we are required to state to them in an examiners' report and for no other purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than the society and the society's members as a body, for our work, for this report, or for the opinions we have formed.

Respective responsibilities of Society Board Members and examiner

The Society Board Members consider that an audit is not required for this year as an appropriate resolution was approved by members at the last AGM and that an independent examination is therefore appropriate.

It is our responsibility to:

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

Our examination was carried out in accordance with General Directions given by Social History Curators Group. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeks explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and, consequently, we do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.

Independent examiner’s statement

In the course of our examination, no matter has come to our attention;

  1. Which gives us reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:

  2. to keep accounting records, and

  3. to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with Generally accepted accounting requirements have not been met, or

  4. To which, in our opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
