For the benefit of the public: -
To advance the education of the public of in respect of the care and
welfare sick, injured and abandoned wild animals
Regular activities:
There was no symposium in 2022. It was felt that the plans for symposia
required review for two reasons:
1. Cost of living crisis.
2. Suitable venues.
It was therefore proposed that symposia will be delayed and the financial
climate reviewed.
Engagement with external organisations:
BWRC had engagement with the Animal Plant Health Agency Avian
Influenza and Wildlife Working Group and the Rabies Communications
Working group.
The BWRC joined the All Parliamentary Group on Animal Welfare

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main The BWRC has continued to adhere to its core values in the promotion of achievements of the charity best practise and highest standards for wildlife welfare in rehabilitation during the year and rescue centres throughout the UK Our membership has grown significantly and there has been some effective listening sessions between trustees and members to understand how we can best assist in providing support and advice for emerging and re-emerging problems such as Avian Influenza

Production of newsletters for members

Development of new online engagement with our community via online talks and CPD events

Production of position statements on the use of wildlife in events and in social media

Co-producing with key partner organisations two welfare focused statements on the use of hedgehogs at events and in the media that have been widely circulated

Met regularly as Trustees to discuss and plan future activities and initiatives over the next 5 years

We have actively engaged with key stakeholders in Government, learned organisations and charities to establish more effective working relationships and partnerships

Section E Financial review

Reserves (generated by donations, associate and organisational Brief statement of the membership and any profit resulting from BWRC training events and charity’s policy on reserves meetings) are used to pay costs directly related to the functions of the charity including trustee's training, travel and working expenses (related directly to BWRC), for production costs such as design and printing of the newsletter and other promotional materials, and to cover any deficit incurred from BWRC training events and meetings. Efforts are made to ensure that reserves are spent carefully with approval from all trustees for any significant purchases. Details of any funds materially in deficit
