The Objects of WCLT in its Constitution (dated 26 November 2013) are: "In partnership with the Buckinghamshire County Library Service, to manage the operation of the Wendover Community Library and to increase the use of the library building for a wider range of educational, community and commercial activities and events for the benefit of the residents of Wendover and the surrounding areas." The WCLT works alongside the Buckinghamshire County Library Service in the day to day running of the Wendover Community Llbrary. Buckinghamshire County Library Service provides essential paid professional staff, who work alongside community volunteers and have important management responsibilities. We have a 'Group Manager, and two part-time 'Library Assistants who work alongside our volunteer staff. This sharing of responsibilities between public service employees and community volunteers is an importallt part of our purpose. Trustees are selected for appointment according to their skills, knowledge and experience relevant to the requirements for the effective administration of WCLT. Meetings of the trustees are held on a regular basis to review matters such as the library facilities and activitie services, volunteer4 fund raising and the relationship with
Buckinghamshire County Library Service. Nominated trustees additionally attend meetings of the Executive Committee. which consists of an equal representation of trustees and executives of Buckinghamshire Council. Policies Adopted by the WCL Trnstee& Since our last report all the policies adopted by the Trustees remain in place. Summary of Activiti During this year, our annual calendar. created through the annual photograph Competitio was again very well received It is a wonderful reflection of Wendover and the surn)unding countyside. The magazine Shelf Life, usually produced every two month& gives regular accounts of the activities that take place in the library. It also provides articles that cover the PUryK)se and ideas behind the Community Library's place in the Wendover community. The much enhanced 'Wendover On Screen. has continued throughout this year. 'On Screen, continues to show films targeted at particular age groups, and also to show more than the previous 'one film per month,. It is important to add that there is no charge to see these films. Those seeing the films can make a voluntary contribution to the cost if they wish. The Extensllon of the Community Library. As noted in Iast y&r's repor¢" after the successful application for funding support from the Libraries Improvement Fun(L we have been able to put forward plans to make SiAficant improvements to the Community Library and to the range of services that will be offered from the building. The extension will provide space to increase the range of community based activities that will be provided A new children's are4 larger than the existing are will enable a wider range of children's activitie4 the computers available to library customers will be more flexible in how they can be US The local tourist inforniation area will be enhance the upstairs section of the library will have better access but above all the provision of new furnitutr and the redecoration of the whole library will
enhance the ambience of the library and increase its attractiveness to all age groups in the community. It is also anticipated that the planned changes to the library's windows will improve the light inside the Library, and enhance considerably the functionality of our Library. We are now able to confirnL (because this report is being written in August 2025). that after all the plans were agreed and confirn]e(L and contracts for the work were issue4 the library closed in September 2024 for construction work to begin. This work was overseen by Buckinghamshire County Council, and after the work's successful completioffj our Library reopened during April 2025. During this unavoidable period of closure we were grdteful to the Wendover Parish Council, who allowed us to use their offices to operate 'a borrow and return service, of library books. Since the reopening of the Community Library. we have only received positive comments from members of our local community. I very much look forward to completing next year's repor¢ (2025-2026) and being able to comprehensively report on Wendover's 'new' Community Library. Perhaps we will be able to include a number of photographs? In conclusiofy it is important to add that Trustees continue to be pleased that so many members of the local community continue to support their local library.
