Barnes Wallis Foundation Trustees’ Annual Report for 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024
Outreach activities have continued through trustee presentations either in person or via Zoom, or similar platforms. We would like to extend our work with Air Training Corps squadrons that was started before the COVID pandemic. Dr Iain Murray also published articles in ‘The Air Historian’ and ‘RAFA Air Mail’.
Peter Hoar, who is a volunteer at Brooklands Museum and elected as a trustee in November 2022, has been our representative at Brooklands Museum. Harry Sherrard, another volunteer at Brooklands, and a motoring and historical speaker, joined the Foundation as a trustee in January 2024. We continue to look for new trustees particularly in the south of England who could support the Foundations archives and artefacts in store at Brooklands Museum.
Where decisions have needed to be taken by Trustees, we have adopted the practice of requiring unanimous agreement via email or an online video meeting. This has worked satisfactorily, since, with the reduced level of activity, the need for decisions has reduced considerably.
We have continued our support for the Barrow & District Association of Engineers (BDAE) programme of granting awards and bursaries to young potential engineers, and recently increased our annual sponsorship. BDAE keep us informed on the development of the programme.
As in previous years we continue to respond to queries received from members of the public and media, mainly via our website, about various aspects of Sir Barnes Wallis’ work and life.
If the Foundation is to continue with its work in the future, it needs to recruit new trustees from younger members of society,
