Barnes Wallis Foundation

Trustees’ Annual Report for 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023

Outreach activities have continued through trustee presentations either in person or via Zoom, or similar platforms, albeit at a lower frequency than pre-pandemic levels. Dr Iain Murray’s article “Loch Striven and its Secret Weapons” was published in February 2022; work on other articles for The Air Historian and RAFA’s Air Mail was expected to be published in 2023.

Where decisions have needed to be taken by Trustees, we have adopted the practice of requiring unanimous agreement via email. This has worked satisfactorily since, with the reduced level of activity, the need for decisions has reduced considerably.

Jonathan Stopes-Roe retired as a trustee and was thanked by the remaining trustees for his valuable contribution over the years especially his work converting the organisation from a registered charity to a charitable incorporated organisation in 2014. Peter Hoar, who is a volunteer at Brooklands Museum, was elected as a trustee in November 2022. We continue to look for new trustees particularly in the south of England who could support the Foundations archives and artefacts in store at Brooklands Museum.

We have continued our support for the Barrow & District Association of Engineers (BDAE) programme of granting awards and bursaries to young potential engineers. BDAE keep us informed on the development of the programme.

As in previous years we continue to respond to queries received from members of the public, mainly via our web site, about various aspects of Sir Barnes Wallis’ work life and work.

This report and the accounts have been agreed unanimously by all trustees via email.
