Objectives and activities
Objects and aims
The purposes of Ihe Club are to promote the amateur sport of cycling in Ilkley and
the surrounding areas. and of community participation in the same orea.
Publlc benefit
The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the requirements of section 17 of
the Charities Act 2017 lo have due regard to the public benefit guidance published
by the Charity Commission for England and Wales. The Trustees plan the ICC'S
activities and events with these requirements in mind. ensuring that public benefit
can be demonstrated in all that the Club does.
Achievements and performance
Club rides
Regular Club rides happen every Thursday evening and Sunday moming. A range of
different rides are available which cater for beginners through to experienced riders.
Rides are posted on the ICC website and Club Rides App in advance so people can
choose the best ride for them.
In addition to these rides, other rides are available during the week including regular
Soturday morning "chain-gang" for racers. a women-only ride on Mondays and off-
road and gravel rides to help riders improve their fitness and bike handling skills. The
yovth section of the Club occasionally organises "family rides" which enable parents
and children to ride together as a group. This provides both a safe. but social
environment where children can learn to ride on the road.
These organised rides are typically available to support all abilities throughout the
year. They are only cancelled in the event of extreme weather conditions that could
threaten rider safety or in-line with official directives (such as British
Cycling/Government directives during the Covid-19 pandemic). During the winter
months, or periods of poor weather, Club members are encouraged to remain
active, keep riding and continue to interact through virtual ride apps such as Zwift
and Rouvy.

Children. Youth and Junlor Riders - coaching and training
The youth section of the Club continues to promote riding from the very youngest up
to junior riders (16-181. We also try to accommodate riders who have specific needs
and, where possible, work with parents to make reasonable adjustments. Our aim is
for cyclists to learn the basics such as balancing, looking ahead, cornering and
pedal position. This helps them with the transition from riding in the youth
environment to the adult rides and competilions. The youngesl group start with
'Pedal in the Park" using games and activities and then move on to more formal
coaching at the Boddington Circuit at the Brownlee Centre. We hope to make
cycling a lifelong habit.
Four clubs have come together to form a training cluster known as the Yorkshire 4
Race Training IY4RTI. Each club provides coaches to run evening sessions and in
addition ICC provides the back-room support such as bookings, finances and the
first aid on the night. This type of cooperalion also allows children to form bonds and
friendships in the cycling fraternity which hopefully will follow them into adulthood.
When riders reach a certain standard, they can move to advanced coaching
sessions which are for teens who are serious about racing.
ICC is a "Go-Ride" club and we work with British Cycling to maintain standards of
care Isafeguardingl and to promote racing. higher level coaching and introduction
to all the cycling disciplines including mountain biking.
Activities and sessions that the youth section of the Club provide on an ongoing
basis include:
starter sessions for young children riding a bike for the first time
Bike loan scheme & kit "swap-shop"
Children/youth coaching locally and in conjunction with British Cycling
Promotion of race events for youths.
Free "obstacle course" for youngster5 at Car Free Festival & Town Races.
Competitive events
The Club has many members who are racing enthusiasts, ranging in age from young
schoolchildren through to veterans. The Club is regularly represented in time trials,
circuit racing. hill climbs, road racing and cyclocross. ICC also promotes and helps
organise events in the local area that draws in local club riders plus many riders from
further afield. These have included time trials, cyclocross, circuit races at The
Brownlee Centre (particularly focusing on female participation) and the Club's own
midsummer Town Centre Races.

ILKLEY CYCLING CLUB
Trustees, Report for the year ended 30 September 2024 (contd.)
The Town Centre Races is a closed-road criterium event and part of the National
Road Racing Series and open to all ages and classes of competition licence holders.
The men's and women's races attract local and nalional sponsorship and is also
seen as an important and entertaining event on the Ilkley community's summer
calendar. The youth races attract a healthy field of young cyclists, many of whom
will hope to go on to race successfully at a senior level. Young spectators at the
event may also be encouraged to take up the sport.
The continued success of the Town Centre Races has been completely dependent
on the dedication of the Club's race organisers, as well os Club members. who
administer and promote the event. find sponsors, run registration and prize giving.
marshal and do all the behind the scenes tasks that the event requires.
Whlte Rose Classic "Sportive" ride
We organise the annual White Rose Classic Sportive, a non-competitive challenge
event which allows riders to choose belween a short140-50 miles), medium18(k90
milesl or long route I 111>120 miles) in the hilly Yorkshire Dales. This typically attracts
30(>5CK) rider5 of all abilities for a day enjoying riding in the countryside and testing
themselves against one of the three challenging routes offered.
The success of this event has been completely dependent on the voluntary efforts of
the principal organiser, Gary Ca￿, supported by dozens of other Club members who
marshal the event, run feed stations and support riders.
In the last few years we have managed to hold our Town Centre Races and the
White Rose Classic on the same summer weekend to create a weekend of cycling
for the town and surrounding areas.
other activities
The Club is a partner in the Ilkley Active Travel Hub and assists with an e-bike loan
scheme which allows people to try out e-bikes. The social side of the Club continues
to be strong and vibrant. Many organised rides include a café stop either during or
after the ride. and there is a thriving post-ride Thursday "Club Night" culture. Groups
have also organised trips to Mallorca, mainland Spain and France.
Flnancial review
Activities are now back to normal following the Covid-19 hiatus and the Club mode
a small surplus for the year under review. Both the White Rose Classic event and the
Town Centre Races more-or-less broke even without requiring subsidy from Club
funds. Member subscription prices are kept low so as not to exclude those on low
incomes and club membership remains at a healthy 61X)+ members at the end of
the year.

ILKLEY CYCLING CLUB
Trustees, Report for the year ended 30 September 2024 (contd.)
The Club continues to invest in its website and on-line presence. Its own successful
Rides App helps and encourages people to participate in club rides and also for ride
leaders to post rides land virtual rides) that others can join.
The Trustees seek to maintain reserves at a level sufficient to provide financial
security for the Club. The reserves include a designated reserve which ring-fences a
sum of £65,OC() that the Trustees intend to be invested in facilities or activities that
benefit the local cycling community. The Club has agreed to help fund the
construction of a new local pump track at Burley-in-wharfedale from this reserve up
