## **Report of the trustees**

## **For the year ended 31[st] March 2022**

The trustees present their report and the financial statements for the year ended 31[st] March 2022.

Reference and administrative information set out on pages 1 of this report.

The financial statements are a true representation of the position of the organisation.

## **Structure, governance and management**

The organisation is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, established on 20 June 2014. The CIO was established under a constitution of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation whose only voting members are its charity Trustees.

## **The board**

The Mathiesen Centre Trust is governed by a board of trustees, whose principal responsibilities are the setting and monitoring of the strategic direction of the organisation and the establishment of policy. All trustees give their time voluntarily and receive no financial benefits from the charity.

## **Ensuring that our work delivered our aims**

The trustees hold a strategy meeting each year to review the future direction of the organisation and ensure that it remains focused on the charity’s purposes.

The trustees have referred to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit when reviewing their aims and objectives and in planning our future activities. The trustees have not identified any detriment or harm. During the year the board of trustees met formally four times.

## **Risk management**

The board of trustees has ultimate responsibility for the management of risk. During the year, the board reviewed and updated the form and content of the risk register. Risk management is integrated with planning and budgeting and the organisation is committed to developing understanding of a risk-aware approach to working. The board keeps major risks under regular review.

## **Public benefit statement**

The trustees confirm that they have due regard to the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit. Later paragraphs of this report sets out the purpose and objectives of the Mathiesen Centre Trust, outline our core beliefs, the focus of our work and how we ensured that our work delivered our aims, and

## **Objectives and activities**

## **Purpose and objectives**

The Mathiesen Centre Trust exists to benefit the residents of Bradville and the neighbourhood of Milton Keynes, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the said residents and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure time occupation with the objective of improving the conditions of life for the residents.

To establish or secure the establishment of a community centre and to maintain or manage or co-operate with any statutory authority in the maintenance and management of such a centre for activities promoted by the charity in furtherance of the above objects.

## **Core beliefs**

The Mathiesen Centre Trust works to provide access to spaces suitable for the operation of community groups, faith groups and society to the betterment of our community.

The Mathiesen Centre Trust achieves change through:

- Improvement of Social Welfare and access to facilities of community recreation

- Promotion of an open and inclusive community

- Exchange of ideas and provision of education

- Links with bodies, voluntary and statutory agencies

## **Chair of the board of trustees**

This year represented a staged return to normal operations post covid and the facility operated with higher levels of operational controls accordingly.

We continue to work closely with users of our facilities and have supported continuation of delivery where possible.

The adaptions we have made to our facility to ensure compliance with Covid19 measures have been maintained and we have educated all our user groups in control measures for safe use of the building.

The organisations income has stabilised and through careful financial management we have significantly reduced operational losses. Our reserves remain strong, and we are hopeful that a return to previous income levels will be restored as full use of our facility is restored.

We remain confident that due our prudent financial approach and strong reserves we will be able to continue to support groups to maximise benefits to the community.
