The Trustees submit their report and the financial statements of Merseyside Against Blood Cancers for the year 1st July 2024 to 30th June 2025.

INTRODUCTION

The Charity is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered with the Charity Commission on the 12th of June 2014. (Number 1157459)

OBJECTIVES

The objectives as set out in the Documents of association are:

ORGANISATION

The Trustees determine the general policies of the Charity.

Trustees are appointed by the Board of Trustees and serve for a period of three years, for a maximum of three terms.

The maximum number of Trustees is nine although a quorum of Four is required at any meeting.

The Trustees agree the Board strategy and area of activity for the Charity, including consideration of fundraising, grant making, investment, reserves and risk management policies and performance.

The Board keeps the skills requirement for the Trustees under review. Where skills gaps are identified, Trustees may appoint a new Trustee from persons known to them or recommended to the Board by Donors or Sponsors. The ultimate decision to appoint is a matter for the Board of Trustees.

4

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

The Trustees continue to be guided by the objectives set out in the CIO Association document.

The Trustees are mindful of their need to be apprised of current developments in the treatment of leukemia and related blood cancers and are therefore in continual dialogue with medical staff at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre whose contributions to the development of Merseyside Against Blood Cancers are gratefully received.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE

The period under review is the ninth full year of activity for the Merseyside Against Blood Cancers. During this period, we have focused on raising income to perform our charitable activities. To this end, the Charity has been successful indicating that the public appreciate and support our activities. By the end of the period, we have been accepting and assessing grant requests in the total amount of £62542.

We must thank the many individuals who have entered in to fundraising events on our behalf. Without their commitment and effort, it would not be possible to meet our objectives. We continue to look for suitable projects both to raise funds and for the Charity to support. While the Health Authorities and individuals continue to experience the effects of spending cuts, we want to ensure that the monies we raise are wisely spent and provide maximum benefit to patients.

RESERVES

The General Fund amounted to £156141 as at 30th June 2025. This includes restricted funds of £11000, which relate to Patient support and Staff training. Also Designated funds of £75703, which is allocated to future grant giving, patient support and the salary of a PHD Student. There is a 15% retention which will provide the Charity with sufficient reserves to avoid financial difficulties.

The balance of reserves will be used to meet the Charities’ aims.

The Trustees consider the level of general funds to be prudent having regard to the Charity’s anticipated future requirements.

5
