BOURNEMOUTH YOUTH MARCHING BAND TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT 2023/24

Commissioners for allowing us the use of these excellent facilities.

This is the Trustees Annual Report of the Bournemouth Youth Marching Band for the financial year 2023-24.

BYMB is a registered charity, non-profit making whilst remaining financially stable.

In this report we outline our charity’s work, where our money comes from and how we’ve spent the money in the past year

The Band is dedicated to allowing young people regardless of their ability, to develop their social and musical skills in a safe environment through their membership of the Band. Children and young people will always be at the heart of everything we do.

The Band is traditional in style with a modern, disciplined, supportive and fun approach to making music. We use traditional brass, woodwind and percussion instruments and we play a wide range of music from classical through to military marches, film music and pop.

The Band is entirely volunteer led, run and supported. We must thank everyone involved for giving freely of their time, energy and expertise.

BYMB is about is all about musicianship, discipline, respect, teamwork, courage, reliability, challenge and confidence. Through membership of the Band we help young people develop, to make a difference and to take their place in the community.

Our funds are predominantly raised through members subscriptions, performance fees, donations, sponsorship, events, fundraising, and gift aid.

The Band continues to meet every Wednesday at the Bourne Academy. The hall rent has increased substantially but is still just being covered by the subscriptions which remain at £10 per month.

Our Awards Evening was held at the Collingwood Hotel where we were delighted to welcome the Director of Music of the Band of the Household Cavalry as the guest of honour.

Band Performances have included Swanage, Corfe Mullen and Ringwood Carnivals, a number of Remembrance and Christmas events and our own Spring and Christmas Concerts. We were delighted that the Trumpeters and Members of the Band of the Household Cavalry joined us for our Spring Concert.

The Band raised over £400 for the Poppy Appeal at our Remembrance Concert.

The Band also undertook a very successful Performance Tour playing in the Disneyland Paris parade, Three Countries Point in the Netherlands and Konigswinter in Germany.

A number of members from the Band participated in the TYMBAFest Training Day held in Burgess Hill and a Drum Training Day held in Coventry.

Several members benefitted from the opportunity to perform with the Royal Marines Portsmouth Band at the Bournemouth Air Show.

The rollout of another set of the tunic uniforms was completed.

Our main payments continue to be costs relating to meeting hall rent, insurance, instruments, repairs, uniforms and transport.

Forward bookings for the Band continue to look healthy. We are especially looking forward to the Palace Parade Review and Drum Battle at Hampton Court for London Band Week.

With membership increasing and carefully managed finances the Band is well placed and secure for next year and for anything unexpected that may occur.

Sunday Meetings continue, generally once a month, at the Poole Ferry Terminal. We are very grateful to the Poole Harbour
