Section B Structure, governance and management
Description of the charity’s trusts
Constitution Type of governing document (eg. trust deed, constitution) Charitable Incorporated Organisation, based around an Association How the charity is constituted model. (eg. trust, association, company) Under the Constitution trustees are appointed by the Spiritual Leaders. Trustee selection methods All current trustees were appointed by the Pastor of the Brook Church, (eg. appointed by, elected by) Christopher Dennis Conry, prior to his retirement on 10[th] September 2023, after serving faithfully as Pastor for over eighteen years. Spiritual Oversight is currently provided by the ALC Elders (please see below).
Additional governance issues (Optional information)
You may choose to include additional information, where relevant, about:
-
policies and procedures adopted for the induction and training of trustees;
-
the charity’s organisational structure and any wider network with which the charity works;
-
relationship with any related parties;
-
Trustees’ consideration of major risks and the system and procedures to manage them.
All trustees are given copies of the Constitution.
The charity is organised with The Spiritual Leaders having spiritual responsibility in the church, the Trustees who manage the charity and the Members who have an active role in appointing the Pastor, Elders and other powers contained in the Constitution. Following unanimous agreement of Members at our Annual General Meeting in December 2022, the Trustees of The Brook Church wrote an open letter of invitation to Ascot Life Church (ALC) to partner with us in renewing and reinvigorating the body of believers at Bagshot and have invited the ALC Elders to help provide spiritual oversight of The Brook Church for three years from 1 January 2023, in the first instance, to oversee and plan for the growth of The Brook Church, until new Elders can be appointed. We have been blessed and are very grateful for ALC’s ongoing support and are excited by what the future holds as we partner together. Both churches are affiliated with the Commission Global family of churches.

Section C Objectives and activities
| Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit) |
The objects of The Brook Church (Bagshot) for the public benefit are to advance the Christian faith in accordance with the Statement of Beliefs, in Bagshot, Surrey and in such other parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Spiritual Leaders, Charity Trustees and Members may from time to time see fit. |
|---|---|
| Firstly the trustees confirm that they have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. The church continues to be open on every other Saturday morning to the whole community from 10am to 12 noon for refreshments and cakes. This is particularly appreciated by the more senior members in the local community. The church is generally open at times in the week when someone is on site, where anyone can come in enjoy light refreshments and either sit and talk or enjoy the peace and quiet in their lunch hour away from their place of work in Bagshot. We continue to meet together for the Sunday morning services at 10am, which are Livestreamed on YouTube as well, and talks are subsequently uploaded to the church website, that is refreshed under the domain name: thebrookchurch.co.uk We are grateful that our Sunday morning services at the Brook Church have also been well supported by members of Ascot Life Church. We also hold a Monday evening prayer meeting and a Wednesday evening Homegroup. The church financially supports two children through the organisation Compassion, one in Ghana and one in Uganda. The church partners with Open Doors a charity who support persecuted Christians around the world and the church donates to them as well. |
Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)
The contribution made by volunteers in the church is very important with many of the church activities served by volunteers within the church.
You may choose to include further statements, where relevant, about:

Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity Our Youth and Children’s Work has continued, with DBS-checked church during the year volunteers doing all the youth and children’s work between them. As a church we continue to partner with “The Besom” in Camberley which provides food, new baby and kitchen starter packs to people who have hit a crisis. It works only on referrals from Citizens Advice, Frontline Debt Advice, Churches, Social Housing, Social Services, Surrey Heath Borough Council, Surrey County Council and schools and nurseries. The Brook Church (Bagshot) contributes by having a large collecting box in the church where people donate to The Besom. We have a church coordinator who makes sure what we give is taken to The Besom and distributed to people. The church building has been in regular use to support the community work of local organisations. We invite the local community for refreshments in the Brook Church at various Bagshot village events, particularly at Christmas and Easter, and also to everyone from other local churches to join us after the Good Friday walk of witness. Following the church A.G.M. in November 2024 it was agreed to make the following donations :- 1) £500 to “The Besom” in Camberley, which provides which provides food, new baby and kitchen starter packs to people who have hit a crisis. 2) £500 to “The Hope Hub”, a local organisation committed to prevent and end homelessness in Surrey Heath Borough and surrounding areas. 3) £500 to” Christians Against Poverty”, a U.K. organisation who provide debt management and help to people. An equal split was made between these organisation of the available funds. These donations came out of the 10% the church sets aside from its unrestricted income. A mission trip abroad was made by two Members of the church to help Christian refugees. A Member of the church serves on the chaplaincy team at a large local hospital. This person is also involved in prison ministry as well.
