Summary of the objects of the
charity set out in its
governing document
Summary of the main
activities undertaken for the
public benefit in relation to
these objects (include within
this section the statutory
declaration that trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit)
The objects of The Brook Church (Bagshot) for the public benefit are to
advance the Christian faith in accordance with the Statement of Beliefs,
in Bagshot, Surrey and in such other parts of the United Kingdom or the
world as the Spiritual Leaders, Charity Trustees and Members may from
time to time see fit.
Firstly the trustees confirm that they have had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
The church continues to be open on every other Saturday morning to the
whole community from 10.00am to 12.00 noon for refreshments and
cakes. This is particularly appreciated by the more senior members in the
local community, especially now the restrictions relating to Covid-19 have
ended.
The church was generally open, with someone on site on Monday and
Tuesday between 12.00 noon and 2.00pm, where anyone can come in
enjoy light refreshments and either sit and talk or enjoy the peace and
quiet in their lunch hour away from their place of work in Bagshot.
We continue to Livestream the Sunday service, as well as meeting
together physically as well.
The Monday evening prayer meeting is a mixture of physically meeting
and also using Zoom as well. One Homegroup meets physically and the
other one meets on Zoom.
The church financially supports two children through the organisation
Compassion, one in Ghana and one in Uganda.
The church partners with Open Doors a charity who support persecuted
Christians around the world and the church donates to them as well.
Following a visit from a speaker from Open Doors the church made a
donation to the work of Open Doors.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main Our Youth and Children’s Work has continued this year, with church achievements of the charity volunteers doing all the youth and children’s work between them. during the year As a church we continue to partner with “The Besom” in Camberley which provides food, new baby and kitchen starter packs to people who have hit a crisis. It works only on referrals from Citizens Advice, Frontline Debt Advice, Churches, Social Housing, Social Services, Surrey Heath Borough Council, Surrey County Council and schools and nurseries. The Brook Church (Bagshot) contributes by having a large collecting box in the church where people donate to The Besom. We have a church coordinator who makes sure what we give is taken to The Besom and distributed to people. This work has grown over the last year. One initiative we took part in, after being contacted by “The Besom” was donating breakfast food for children, as there were reports of local schoolchildren going to school without breakfast. Following the church A.G.M. in November it was agreed to make the following donations :- 1) £750 to the Hope Hub, a local charity that helps people who are currently homeless in finding a way forward including debt handling advice and help seeking employment. 2) £750 to help disadvantaged children in certain countries. 3) £750 to Christians Against Poverty, a U.K. organisation who provide debt management and help to people. 4) £750 to Compassion for their food programme to children abroad where they are involved. These donations came out of the 10% the church sets aside from its unrestricted income. A mission trip abroad was made by two Members of the church to help Christian refugees. A Member of the church serves on the chaplaincy team at a large local hospital. This person is also involved in prison ministry as well. From the end of November 2022 to the end of March 2023, the church hosted a “Warm Space” from 12.30pm to 4.00pm every Thursday afternoon. This meant that anyone in the community could come in to a warm building and chat, receive refreshments and in one situation, coordinated help from the local foodbank.
