| Summary of the objects of the charity set out in its governing document Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit) |
The objects of The Brook Church (Bagshot) for the public benefit are to advance the Christian faith in accordance with the Statement of Beliefs, in Bagshot, Surrey and in such other parts of the United Kingdom or the world as the Spiritual Leaders, Charity Trustees and Members may from time to time see fit. |
|---|---|
| Firstly the trustees confirm that they have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. The church is normally open (Covid-19 permitting) on Saturday mornings to the whole community from 10.00am to 12.00 noon for refreshments and cakes. This is particularly appreciated by the more senior members in the local community. Whilst impacted by Covid-19 the coffee mornings did take place on a number of Saturdays during the last year. The church is generally open, with someone on site on Monday and Tuesday between 12.00 noon and 2.00pm where anyone can come in enjoy light refreshments and either sit and talk or enjoy the peace and quiet in their lunch hour away from their place of work in Bagshot. This year unfortunately church opening has been heavily impacted by Covid- 19. Because of Covid-19, for the past year the Sunday morning service has been held on-line at 11.00am, along with prayer meetings and Homegroups. The church financially supports two children through the organisation Compassion, one in Ghana and one in Uganda. The church partners with Open Doors a charity who support persecuted Christians around the world and the church donates to them as well. As a church we are normally very much part of the Bagshot Village Day, now called the Bagshot Big Bash, unfortunately again badly affected because of Covid-19. |

Section D Achievements and performance
The past year has been a challenging one as a result of Covid-19. Summary of the main achievements of the charity In response to the serious situation when Covid-19 started last year, The during the year Brook Church responded and joined a local initiative with the local council, other churches and other organisations to assist those isolating from Covid-19. This involved helping to fulfil requests from people who were shielding from Covid-19, to have shopping bought and delivered, collecting prescriptions and other miscellaneous requests. It was very successful, so much so, that when the initiative ended, there was a live on-line “thank you” meeting arranged, to which all the organisations that had taken part were thanked by HRH the Earl of Wessex and Michael Gove, MP for Surrey Heath. Needless to say this was appreciated by all those attending. Like many churches, we moved our Sunday morning service to an on-line meeting and the attendance has held up fairly well. Our Youth and Children’s Worker has continued to work with the younger people of the church, mainly on-line, but occasionally physically when Covid-19 regulations allowed. During a challenging year for schoolchildren, our Youth and Children’s Worker was able to carry on with some of the work with Camberley Youth for Christ, an organisation that goes into local Secondary schools to bring the Christian message. There was an increased demand for one on one support to local schoolchildren, largely as a result of the situation around Covid-19. As a church we continue to partner with “The Besom” in Camberley which provides food, new baby and kitchen starter packs to people who have hit a crisis. It works only on referrals from Citizens Advice, Frontline Debt Advice, Churches, Social Housing, Social Services, Surrey Heath Borough Council, Surrey County Council and schools and nurseries. The Brook Church (Bagshot) contributes by having a large collecting box in the church where people donate to The Besom. We have a church coordinator who makes sure what we give is taken to The Besom and distributed to people. This work has grown over the last year, probably as a result of Covid-19. At Christmas time we made a monetary gift to the Hope Hub, a local charity that helps people who are currently homeless in finding a way forward including debt handling advice and help seeking employment. As a church we set aside 10% of the unrestricted income to go towards other Christian organisations, which maybe local, national or international.
