Background Information

Trimdon Grange Community Centre is over 100 years old. The Community Centre is unique in Trimdon Grange, being the only community building where people can meet, relax and have fun. Although the building is owned by Durham County Council a Management Committee (formed in 1960) of local people oversee the day to day running of the Centre and keep the wheels in motion. In recent years, the Management Committee have worked together to keep the building alive, of which work included: 1998-1999 new windows and doors, central heating, new flooring and lighting, fully decorated inside and out, car park resurfaced as well as a community garden in 2000.

We are DDA compliant with Ladies and Gents toilets and kitchen to provide for the disabled, the ramp in the car park and automatic door to the main entrance. We also have CCTV, security lighting and a new roof in December 2008, we hope to install Solar panels very soon. We have also had our wooden floor restored back to its former glory which is definitely worth a visit to see. In 2024 we had a full new boiler system fitted.

We have a computer, plus laptops and an iPad with FREE wi-fi for all to use. In our newly refurbished meeting room with high tec projector and screen.

We were successful in obtaining funding from the National Lottery to recruit another part time staff member in February 2024 to assist in administration duties and fundraising.

We also have a room displaying the Miners Banner for Trimdon Grange- a great piece of history. We are working closely with members of the community to bring back to Trimdon photographs of the history of the pitvillage and to display them in our Centre.

We worked with the community and held consultations, gained funding and installed the Play Area and Multi User Games Area raising over £150k, we are very proud of achieving this by working together with the community, Groundworks and Community Spaces and our Local Councillor's.

AIMS/OBJECTIVES "A FRIENDLY PLACE TO BE!"

• To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Trimdon Grange and the surrounding neighborhoods and villages.

• To bring communities together 'young and old' by providing a meeting place, a warm comfortable environment to socialize.

• • To provide easy access to training on the doorstep, to enable individuals to broaden their skills and knowledge without having to travel.

• A celebration place for Annual Events, Parties, Function and Business Seminars etc.

• To develop the Youth Club and activities for the young generations as we believe the young people in our community are worth it and should be able to have the opportunity to voice their opinions.

Our centre is open every weekday 10.30am till 12.30am for freshly baked scones and refreshments and a little bit of social interaction. OPEN 1pm-4pm every weekday for advice, help and support. We are also a Warm Welcome Space. We have a stunning award-winning garden when the warm weather returns which is maintained by a handful of volunteers. 2024 HIGHLIGHTS

Friday Morning Walking Group

A group of volunteers started a walking group in our lovely little area and its gone from a few to at least 15-25 each week, walking from the next villages to meet up, take it at their own pace and then returning back to the centre for freshly baked scones and a coffee or to relax in our beautiful garden on a sunny day! Occasionally they take a trip out further afield. Thank you to Darryl one of our volunteers for taking the lead on this fantastic group. New members always welcome to join our lovely friendly group every Friday morning.

Armed Forces Day

In June 2024 we held our annual Armed Forces Day and Family Fun Day which was a huge success, over the years it has grown to more than we ever imagined, families from far and wide enjoying a fantastic day! Emergency Services, Hartlepool Sea and RAF Cadets, Children's games and entertainment, Fair ground rides the list goes on.

Friday Morning Social Group

Every Friday morning we meet and provide a free 2 hour craft session, started in 2017 by linking in with Trimdon Village Hall, we encourage the older generations to be more interactive and socialise in their community. This group has gone from strength to strength with people from wider areas joining and still continuing to meet on a Friday all Welcome.

An Evening of Clairvoyance

Thanks to one of our Late residents of Trimdon Grange, Mr Maurice Crake, we still continue to host an eveving of clairvoyance, held on Wednesday throughout the year. We have different mediums that come along and give readings, they also offer private readings should anyone wish to do so. We provide a raffle and refresments. Mr Crake saddly passed away in November 2012, however we carry this on and link with other spiritual churches and mediums to continue this in his memory.

Sunflower Yoga

Chair Based Yoga every Tuesday morning at the centre 11-12 noon £3.00pp. Anyone welcome to come along and join this very popular group, the group stay afterwards for refreshments and to socialise in the centre.

NuMoves

Every Thursday we have 3 classes providied by Nuvo Wellbeing all free of charge. The first class on an afternoon is Numoves a mixed ability session for adults 2-2.45pm. The next session is Nuvo Wellbeing NDance for kids aged 5 plus years, 4-5pm all welcome to join. The last class is NDance musical theatre and Street dance 11-18 years 5-6pm. Come along enjoy the music, dance and mix with other adults and kids.

Lets Dance With Maxine

Every Wednesday morning we have a class for ladies only, Dance With Maxine. This class has now 20 plus members every week who enjoy a bit of rock n roll and keeping fit at the same time. They usually always stay for refreshments and socialising afterwards.

Mens Club

Every Wednesday evening the Mens Club meet at the centre 7-9pm, the last Wednesday of the month they head to the local pub The Dovecote. All men are welcome to come and join, free of charge. They do different games, activities, quizzes, gardening and day trips out.

Youth Club Juniors Creative Kids, Mondays

Over the last 13 years we have been able to hold our youth club every Monday evening, having a wide range of activities which include, Creative Youth holding the sessions, trips out, themed nights, pizza nights, summer nights in the park and parties for Halloween, bonfire and Christmas. We are in the process of looking for more qualified youth workers to carry on the great youth club we have in the centre.

Family Fun!

With thanks to the funding we received from Livin we are continuing our family trips out over the summer, we enjoyed South Shields, Jump 360 and a Farm Adventure at Durham. We also had crafts with Jan a lovely local tutor who does great with the kids from sewing, to crafts and much more. We will be continuing this next year with new bus trips for families and more summer fun and crafts. We also hold events at Easter, Halloween, a trip to the Fireworks and our Christmas Extravaganza and to finish the year a family pantomime at Hartlepool.

Events of 2024

• Easter Trail and free Gift: Our annual easter trail is still as popular with families, come along and meet some easter characters along the trail.

• Pie & Pea 5km Trail: We welcomed over 250 runners to the centre and our village, cross the finish line and to the centre for delicious pie and peas.

• Halloween Family Disco: To the centre for a spooky party.

• Christmas 0f 2024: What can we say, Children's Christmas Disco, a full weekend of activities (even though the weather was not on our side) an ICE RINK for all, our very own Christmas markets and the traditional Puffing Billy.

THE FUTURE 2025

In 2025 our aim is to go from strength to strength by providing:

• Provide more services for all ages, by networking with various agencies

• To be sustainable to enable to continue to employ our centre administrator, along with volunteers and Management Committee who is based in the centre each day

• Recruit and train more volunteers for ad hoc or regular activities

• Hold more community events and larger events outdoors

• To communicate effectively with users of the centre, face to face and via questionnaires. To establish the best way to promote and provide the support and activities needed most by the whole community

• To lead the way in environmentally friendly projects

• To ensure that our community centre survives the government cuts and remains a hive of activity for all to enjoy

Trimdon Grange Community Association - 2024

Introduction

• 1.1. In examination of the accounts for the Trimdon Community Association was carried out for the period 1[st] January 2024 to December 2024.

• 1.2. The contents of this report have been discussed and agreed with the Treasurer and any recommendations are included in the report.

Scope of the Review

• 2.1. The examination tested and evaluated the efficiency and effectiveness of the income and expenditure records.

• 2.2. The areas of financial and administrative activity examined included:

• Income and expenditure cash book

• bank statements,

• receipts/invoices,

3 Findings

• 3.1. The Treasurer records all income and expenditure on a spreadsheet Cash book, which is broken down into Categories, and totals shown however, there appears to be no bank reconciliation carried out to the fund records.

• 3.2. On examining the spreadsheet there were no records of dates and cheque numbers which made reconciliation very difficult. I was able to complete a statement of accounts and bank reconciliation for the current account., however, I could not identify 1 unpresented cheque (see statement of accounts) as I did not have the cheque book.

• .

• 3.3. Using the spreadsheet records a statement of accounts and fund reconciliation was produced detailing all the receipts and payments for the period. This gave a surplus for the year of fund £3,951.59 which gave a fund record of £79.997.99 which reconciled to the current account bank statement as at 31[st] December 2024

• 3.4. The Community Centre also holds a deposit account which reconciled at the end of the year.

• Conclusions/Recommendations

• 4.1. Although records have improved by recording the income and expenditure on a spreadsheet as recommend previously, it can be further improved which should show dates of payments, Income paid in and cheque numbers.

• 4.2. There is no evidence that the records are regularly reconciled to the bank statements, this would make sure that all records are properly recorded on the spreadsheet and pick up any errors earlier.
