BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Trimdon Grange Community Centre is over 100 years old. The Community
Centre is unique in Trimdon Grange. being the only community building where
people can meet, relax and have fun. Although the building is owned by
Durham County Council a Management Committee (fomied in 1960) of local
people oversee the day to day running of the Centre and keep the wheels in
motion. In recent years. the Management Committee have worked together to
keep the building alive, of which work included.. 1998-1999 new windows and
doors, central heating. new flooring and lighting, fully decorated inside and out,
car park resurfaced as well as a community garden in 2000.
We are DDA compliant with ladies and gents toilets and kitchen to provide for
the disabled, the ramp in the car park and automatic door to the main entrance.
We also have CCTV, security lighting and a new roof in December 2008 which
we hope to install Solar panels very soon. We have also had our wooden floor
restored back to its fomier glory, definitely worth a visit.
We have 2 computers. plus laptops and ipads with broadband and wireless
internet access to the community ￿ntre which have been re￿ntlY upgraded.
We also have a room displaying the Miners Banner for Trimdon Grange
great ple￿ of history. We are working closely with members of the community
to bring back to Trimdon photographs of the history of the pit-village and to
display them in our centre.
We worked with the community and held consuttations, gained funding and
installed the Play Area and Multi User Games Area, we are very proud of
achieving this by working together with the community, Groundworks and
Community Spaces and our local Councillors.

2021 HIGHLIGHTS
COVID RESPONSE/RECOVERY
2020 taught us a lot about how to progress as a communty and we grew and
gained so many volunteers making us a stronger village. We now have a
regular centre manager in place thanks to funding from the National Lottery and
daily volunteers to assist in our drop in. This has enabled us to strengthen our
networking with local partnerships and other likewise community groups. All of
our large events are now undertaken outdoors as this is what the community
want which shows in the participation of huge families and numbers and again
the volunteers for making it all happen. Lots of pictures can be seen on our
website and social media pages.
ARMED FORCES DAY
In June 2019, we held our very 1StAmed ForceslFamily Fun day which was just
a fantastic success!! We linked in with other community centres and all our user
groups. old fashioned afternoon tea and memorabilia on display inside the
centre. we invited the uniformed services and veterans from the area who came
back on the day. some had not been in Trimdon for 30 years and was such a
lovely day. due to covid 2020 Can￿lled but 2021 was bigger and better
than ever with the local mining display, the amiy soup kitchens attending,
various uniformed services, making full use of our small village and area it was
a huge success On￿ again.
Sadly Trimdon Grange Infants School was eamarked for closure and we
managed to save the beautiful window previously on show at the school,
designed by children of Trimdon Grange and showing our heritage in an

1911-2011
oin
We have been planning events for throughout the year and for 2022 for all ages
and all seasons with our new volunteers we can continue going from strength to
strength to provide low cost activities and events for the local people.

Friday morning walking group
A group of volunteers started a walking group in our lovely little area and its
gone from a few to at least 15-20 each week, walking from the next villages to
meet up, take it at their own pace and then returning back to the community
centre for freshly baked scones and a coffee or relaxing in the beautiful garden
on a sunny day. Occasionally they take a trip out further a field. Thanks to one
of our new volunteers for taking the lead on this fantastic new group.

Friday morning social group
Every Friday morning we meet and provide a free 2 hour craft session, started in
2017 by linking in with Trimdon Village Hall, mirroring the event they have on a
Thursday, we encourage the older generation to be more interactive and socialise
in their community. We provided a 2 course hot lunch from another local
community centre meals on wheels delivery servi￿, this session has gone from
strength to strength with at least 15 regular attendees each week. We have trips
out to Beamish, Thirsk. our oldest lady is 85 years young and thoroughly enjoys
her weekly visit to our centre along with the mix of men and ladies we have
attending. This session is ran by 2 of our committee members very successfully
and continues to grow and is open to all members of the public of all ages.

JUNIOR YOUTH CLUB Wednesdays 5-7pm
Over the last 13 years, we have been able to do a wide range of acttvities which
have included trips out, pizza nights, theme nights,. Halloween., bonfire., disco
etc and a Christmas party and pan cake hue. Due to covid we have been
unable to continue and recruit good quality youth workers which we are
continuously trying to overcome by working with other agencies. We combat
this now by doing family trips in the school holidays thanks to funding from DCC
fun & food and the volunteers.

Family fun
We have reinvented ourselves due to struggling to obtain youth workers and
now offer family fun in the holidays for all to enjoy. Thanks to funding from DCC
and various other partnerships we can do this at very low cost and often free.
We plan a busy schedule for families to join in with each week and have a free
meal each time. Ched( out all our photos on social media albums.
An Evening of Clairvoyance
Thanks to one of our residents of Trimdon Grange, Mr Maurice Crake, we have
been hosting a monthly Evening of Clairvoyance on the 2nd Tuesday,
organising a different set of mediums to come along and give readings, they
also offer private readings should anyone wish to do so. We also provide a
raffle and refreshments and the attendan￿ and feedback has been excellent.
Unfortunately Mr Crake passed away in November 2012, however we link with
other spiritual churches to continue this in his memory on a monthly basis and
this has now extended to Trimdon Village Hall mid month by working in
partnership.

After 13 years of being based at Trimdon Grange Community Centre Sophie

We wish to thank Sophie and her tutors and children for attending these

dancinglacting careers.
Lets Dance with Maxlne
Every Wednesday moming we have a brand new class for ladies only,
dance with Maxine. this class has now 20 plus members every week who
enjoy a bit of rock n roll and keeping fit at the same time. They usually
always stay for refreshment and socialising afterwards.

Muddy run
Twice a year we are host to a popular muddy run
organisation who use our centre as a base f or a fun
run in the area, mapped out by volunteers along Wlth
their leader. This event is hugely popular and
runners must book in advance. Colder months we

THE FUTURE

agencies

via - website, newsletter, media, links with local groups etc..
