BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Trtmdon Grange Community Centre is over 100 years old. The Community
Centre is unique in Trimdon Grange, being the only communty building where
people can meet, relax and have fun. Although the building is owned by
Durham County Council a Management Committee (formed in 1960) of local
people oversee the day to day running of the Centre and keep the wheels in
motion. In recent years, the Management Committee have worked together to
keep the building alive, of which work included" 1998-1999 new windows and
doors, ￿ntral heating, new flooring and lighting, fully decorated inside and out,
car park reSUrfa￿d as well as a community garden in 2000. 2014 we almost
had to close the building but the volunteers pulled together and went through
asset transfer suc￿ssfully. In 2016 we had a complete rewire to bring us up to
modem standards
We are DDA compliant with ladies and gents toilets and krtchen to provide for
the disabled, the ramp in the car park and automatic door to the main entrance.
We also have Cc￿. securty lighting and a new roof in December 2008 which
we hope to install Solar panels very soon. We have also had our wooden floor
restored back to its fomer glory, definitely worth a visit.
We have laptops with broadband and wireless internet aC￿sS to the community
centre which have been recently upgraded.
We also have a room displaying the Miners Banner for Trimdon Grange
great piece of history. We are W￿rkIng closely with members of the community
to bring back to Trimdon photographs of the history of the pit-village and to
display them in our centre.
We worked with the community and held consultations, gained funding and
installed the Play Area and Multi User Games Area, we are very proud of
achieving this by working together with the community, Groundworks and
Community sPa￿s and our local Councillors.

2020 HIGHLIGHTS
COVID RESPONSE/RECOVERY
Like everyon¢ we were busy as usual until Covid hit in MarchlApril and put a halt to
everything. excepi the essential workers and clwities. We stepped into action, gained
an anny of volunteers and went from strength to strength to ensure no one was missed,
delivering leaflets to every single householLt collating inforniation on local shops that
delivered, helped the elderly and isolating. collected essential shopping. pr¢scriptions,
shared jigsaws. books and crafts to help with keeping the mind active. We partnered up
with Auckland Castle to deliver frozen 2 course nutritional meals to over 200 people
every Monday. It was a mammoth task but we kept on going, With fl￿ding from Livtn,
AAP and CDCF we delivered food, fresh fruit and veg and hygiene packs from April
right through to Sept¢tnber, offered uniform exchange, gave the elderly Breakfast packs
as a treat to brighten up their day. then slowly invikd people back when covid recovery
allowed with strict guidance in place. The children were given East¢r craft packs and
nature packs by teaming up with Trimdon Village Hall. Halloween and Xmas we
ventlwed outdoors into our local woodland area and creaied wonderful events for all
families in their bubbles to attend with amazing results, many pictures can be seen on
our Social media and website. Although covid was an ordeal for so many, we hope we
have fotmed a knnd with new volunteers and existing ones to Cr￿te a stronger
community going forward
OVER 50'S
In September 2017. we joined forc¢s with Trimdon Village Hall and ran an Over 50s
lub every Friday morning. this did not stop during Covid. We deliv¢red packs to all
the elderly and isolating lo combat with social isolation and gently encouraged them
back into the community later in 2020
ARMED FORCES DAY
In June 2019. we held our very I. Amied ForceslFamily Fun day which was just
fantastic success! ! We linked in with other community centres and all our user groups,
old fashioned afternoon and memorabilia on display inside the centre, we invited the
unifomied 5¢rvices and veterans from the area who came back on the day, somc had not
been in Trimdon for 30 y¢ars and was such a lovely day. due to covid 2020 was
cancelled but we aim to make 2021 a bigger and better event.
oin
develo
ments
Oncc agall￿ its been a very busy year for our cornmittee.
Funding has been solely focused on Covtd and we managed to employ our very first
Centre Manager to help with the day to day run￿Ing of the centre thanks to National
Lottery Funding and the hardwork of our volunteers. Thi5 has enabled us to strengthen
our networking with local partnerships and other likewise community groups.
We have been successfijl in securing fi￿dIng from the Happiness Hub for laptops and
ipads to help with social isolation. Due to covid restrictions this was pu¢ on hold but we
hope to get this up and nllming success￿11Y in 2021.

Outdoor fun
We are one of the nominated charities from our local Co-op fund and want all
the children to be able to enjoy the free outdoors. We have ernbra￿d covid
and took everything outdoors, from the easter trails in family bubbles to playing
in cardboard dens, to Halloween and winter wooderland. This will continue in
2021 encouraging more outdoor activities and family play

Meals and More
Every Friday moming we meet and provide a free 2 hour craft session, by linking in
with Trimdon Village Hall, mirroring the event they have on a Thursday, we
encourage the older generation to be more interactive and socialise in their
communty. We provide a 2 course hot lunch from another local community centre
meals on wheels delivery seN1￿. this session has gone from strength to strength
with at least 15 regular attendees each week. We have trips out to Beamish,
Thirsk, our oldest lady is 85 years young and thoroughly enjoys her weekly visit to
our ￿ntre along wrth the mix of men and ladies we have attending. This session
is ran by 2 of our commrttee members very successfully and continues to grow

JUNIOR YOUTH CLUB Wednesdays 5-7pm
Over the last 12 years, we have been able to do a wide range of
activities which have included trips out, pizza nights, theme nights.
Halloween. bonfire. disco etc and a Christmas party and pan cake
hue. We have I lead youth worker and 2 assistants plus volunteers
that make our youth club run
The children are very happy which shows in the attendance register.
The young people attending the youth club are of different genders
each week. There ages range from 7-12 years. Our numbers are
now on the increase attracting between 25-30 people each week. We
make the best of our outdoor spaces in the local area, including the
beautiful walks, woods and recreation field

Youth Club seniors
We also have a Youth Club following our own sessions on a
Wednesday evening providing for the older young people aged 12-19
years, again ran by the same staff and volunteers, targeting the
harder to engage with children, but hopefully this is made smoother
by the younger session earlier, they will gradually grow and move up
to this one, having weekends away, learning new skills etc. The
older session particularly enjoy the trips out, bowling, ice skatingi
food, music
An Evening of Clairvoyance
Thanks to one of our residents of Trimdon Grange, Mr Maurice Crake, we
have been hosting a monthly Evening of Clairvoyance on the last Tuesday,
organising a different set of mediums to come along and give readings, they
also offer private readings should anyone wish to do so. We also provide a
raffle and refreshments and the attendance and feedback has been excellent.
Unfortunately Mr Crake passed away in November 2012, however we link
with other spiritual churches to continue this in his memory on a monthly
basis and this has now extended to Trimdon Village Hall mid month by
working in partnership. This will return in 2021
