In total over 21 tonnes of food was donated in the year (32 tonnes in 2022/23) equating to £50,690 using a value/kg from Trussell.

In addition, 5,983kg of food was purchased using £15,541 from monetary donations (2022/23 – 5,675kg at a cost of £19,073)

{$) Towcester Year Snapshot – How was Food Ending Hunger Together Issued?

During the year, 985 vouchers (2022/23 - 1,069) were fulfilled providing support for 2,734 people (2022/23 – 3,208). Of these 1,144 were children (2022/23 - 1,457)

A total of 24,522kg (2022/23 – 29,425kg) of food and household items was distributed to local people in need, with an additional 27kg to other foodbanks in need of supplies

Our numbers may be lower than last year, but over the longer period they continue to increase, despite a huge growth in social food providers in our area

Figures do not represent number of individuals, they include people / families who need to make repeat visits

Year Snapshot – How was Food

556 (56%) [2022/23 - 577 (54%) ] vouchers issued were for people living in the wards of Towcester and Roade.

We have over 30 active local partner agencies who issue vouchers to those in crisis
-
Around 5% of vouchers were issued by West Northants Council, 14% by schools and nurseries, 7% by medical centres, 7% by Citizens Advice and 5% by Grand Union Housing Group. 50% were issued by the Foodbank to guests who came directly to obtain a food parcel.

17% were for households of 2 or more adults

We now have a presence on Facebook, Linked-In, Instagram and X, with a potential reach within the local community of 55,799 people

Our new website will be going live in the next couple of months

We have extended our current platforms to gain Instagram and YouTube presence

Many guests are now accessing our service through Facebook Messenger.

Additional Highlights
-
We continue to provide a range of fresh fruit for our guests to choose from, as well as a selection of toiletries.

With a grant from National Grid Electricity Distribution Community Matters we gave out Winter Warmer bags to 94 households.

Over December 2023, in addition to normal bags, we provided 126 Christmas Food Hampers and gave out 131 books and 58 book tokens to children and teenagers in families accessing the foodbank.

• With The Moghul Rooms Indian Restaurant, we gave out vouchers for a hot take-away curry .

Additional Activities
-
From September to February we issued 102 supermarket vouchers to our guests as part of the Household Support Fund 4 scheme run by WNC & Northamptonshire Community Foundation (NCF). Using a grant of £4,500 subsequently received from NCF, we issued a further 73 supermarket vouchers to our guests during July and August.

With The Wharf Distillery we were able to provide children’s activity packs to support families over the summer holidays.

The partnership with Citizens Advice continues with an adviser present at both sessions during the week. Over the year the service saw 194 of our guests, improving their financial situation by a total of over £244,000.

Using funds from HSF(5) we gave out bags of household cleaning items and also operated a pilot scheme with Towcester Community Larder to move people into more sustainable food provision.

Restricted income was received to fund our commitment to the provision of ongoing advice from Citizen’s Advice at each session.
