Achievements and Performance

SORP reference Due to the covid Pandemic it has been impossible to continue with the transplant programme due to travel restrictions and conseqently there has been no activity during this period.

Summary of the main
achievements of the
charity, identifying the
diference the charity’s
work has made to the
circumstances of its
benefciaries and any
wider benefts to society
as a whole.
Para 1.20 Dialysis for end stage renal failure
represents a huge burden on society
and healthcare budget. Transplantation
ofers a better quality of life for
patients with end stage renal failure
and a better chance of being
productive and keeping a job. Also it
ofers longer survival in comparison to
dialysis. It is estimated that each
dialysis patient costs around $25-
30.000 US dollars per year. The course
of kidney transplantation is estimated
at around $25,000 dollars for the frst
year and then $3-5,000 dollars per
year afterwards.
Kidney transplantation is the best
treatment option for patients with end
stage renal failure. Literature evidence
indicates that kidney transplantation
ofers a better quality of life compared
to dialysis and prolonged survival. Also
it is established that kidney
transplantation is the most cost
efective modality of treatment of
kidney failure.
The number of patients who are on
dialysis in Gaza are around 350
patients. Currently patients who
require kidney transplantation have to
travel abroad to have the procedure
performed with an estimated cost of
around $25,000 US dollars per patient.
For most patients in Gaza that is not a
viable option. With the Gaza population
of 2 million plus it is estimated that
the need for kidney transplantation is
around 75 transplants per year.
