## **TRUSTEES REPORT FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 MARCH 2025**
The Trustees of the Harmony of Hope charity present their annual report and financial statements for the year ended 31[st] March 2025.
HARMONY OF HOPE was founded in 2013 to reach out to the impoverished with music therapy and donations of musical instruments. The charity works with other charitable organizations so that it can properly identify needs and work alongside existing projects.
## OBJECTS
The object of the Trust is to promote for the public benefit the advancement, appreciation, understanding and education of music to disadvantaged people particularly, but not exclusively, with a view toward mitigating the effects of poverty and suffering, promoting personal and community healing and reconciliation, and providing opportunities for cross cultural exchange.
Music, when used appropriately and with care, has the power to heal by helping people to understand and rationalize emotions.
- ❖ Music has power—especially for individuals suffering from trauma.
- ❖ Music can shift mood, manage stress-induced agitation, stimulate positive interactions, facilitate cognitive function, and coordinate motor movements.
- ❖ This happens because rhythmic and other well-rehearsed responses require little to no cognitive or mental processing. They are influenced by the motor center of the brain that responds directly to auditory rhythmic cues.
- ❖ Most people associate music with important events and a wide array of emotions. The connection can be so strong that hearing a tune long after the occurrence evokes a memory of it.
## RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRUSTEES
Directions relating to the charitable trust are made by the Trustees, who are responsible for the charity. Decisions on expenditure and activities are decided by the Trustees. The powers of appointment or removal of Trustees rests with the Trustees. The charity does not employ any staff. The majority of the work of the charity is run privately, without recognition, and the hours and value of that time cannot be quantified.
The Trustees have complied with the duty in section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission in December 2008.

THE YEAR: ITS OBJECTIVES AND ACHIEVEMENTS
During the year ended 31 March 2025 the main ways the charity sought to achieve its charitable purposes for the public benefit have been as follows:
## **Teaching, instructing and showing practical care in the community**
We were able to provide regular keyboard lessons and helped to source a new piano for the Al Ahlia centre in downtown Amman including a concert. The purchase of another keyboard enabled more refugees to participate in lessons on the piano and better express themselves. It will also facilitate concerts in the future and enable a sense of well-being and achievement for those who learn at the centre.
We also worked with a school for refugees based in Mahatta, Amman. We provided them with lessons and used equipment previously donated to enable the lessons to be enjoyed by all the children. This school works mostly with Iraqi refugees. Most of this was group lesson work
## **Impacting the next generation**
The aim of our music is to provide relief to the individual and also extend the impact on community and family life.
## **Practical help to the community**
We were able to source many second hand clothes and household items to donate via the refugee centres
## **Cultural Enrichment**
The website contains uptodate information about the charity and this was regularly used to showcase the work of the charity
## **Bringing support to disadvantaged communities**
We continued to maintain a link with the schools and refugee centres in Amman working with the steady influx of refugees from Syria, Iraq, Ethiopia, Sudan and Yemen

## PLANS FOR THE NEW YEAR
The key strategies for the Charity are to remain the same. The priorities are:
- To continue developing our links with charities working with disadvantaged in order to assist our work with vulnerable communities
- To further develop links with schools in order to promote the Arabic music project and encourage sponsorship activity.
- To pursue contacts with grant making associations in order to attract more funding.
## FINANCIAL REVIEW
Trustees have a policy of retaining reserves sufficient for the foreseeable needs of the charity. We were unable to purchase any instruments this year.
## STATEMENT OF TRUSTEES’ RESPONSIBILITIES
Charity law requires the Trustees to prepare accounts for each financial year which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity and of the profit and loss of the Charity for that period. In preparing these accounts, the Trustees are required to:
- Select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently.
- Make adjustments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.
- Prepare the accounts on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the Charity will continue in operation.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping adequate accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity and to enable them to ensure that the accounts comply with the Charities Acts. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. The Trustees confirm that the accounts comply with current statutory requirements and those of the Charity’s trust deed.
