certain areas of theatrical work) orvhiich are denied access to theatre through a lack ofawareness, opportunty

The trustees meet quarterfy to receive reports on and to review the being undertaken.
Financial matte
Tonic Theatre's income for the flnancial period was £238,963 and Its expenditure was £229,222.
Income w85 derived from 8 combination of income from our charitable aclivitles {£236,9131, and donatior6
from individ uals1£50).
The main area of expenditurewas carying out th8 charitable objects of the company of which the largest part
vms spent on project staff and artists, fees {£184,207} Chantable expenditure of £25,042, running costs of
£19,253 8nd govemance costs of £720 (nel) made up the rem8inder of expenditure.
Al the end of the year there was £nil of restricted expenditure.
The company became VAT registered on 13th January 2017, The company's VAT number is.. 264 3327 10.

Tonic Theatre continued lo grow and expand its worf( during this period. delivering our programme of activitkS8
through a combination of in-person and on-line interactions.
Key activity in the year saw Tonlc Theatre..
Launch Changernakers, a membership programme for people btho lead vnrk on Equality, Diver81ty
and Inclusion IEDI) within arts organisalions. Changemakers provides a year-round rolling programme
of training, support and community activities At the Commencement of the programme, 18
organisations from acfOSS the arts and cultural sector had signed up as partlcipants.
Continue to ddlver Iralnlng and consullancy to a ￿de range of arts and cultural organlsatlons across
the UK. In total Tonic Treat￿ delivered tralning or consultancy to 50 organisalions 8cross the UK and
beyond dunng the year.
8uild on our work wlh drama schools and perfomlng artg trainlng Instltutions vla our 'Partl¢lpate'
programme. wothed ￿th 16 institutions across the UK, delivering sessions covering various areas
of EDI a8 well those focusing on consent, boundaries and f omiing healthy professional relationships.
Deliver an industry-facing event to raise awareness around menopause, h05ted at Soho Thealre In
London. In connect1onv￿th this. Tonic Theatre launched a new training course forarts organisations,
focused on increasing confidence 8nd support in relation to menopause,
Collaborate wlh the Research Department of Royal Central School of Speech and Dram8 on a
research study examining challenges and barriers for young people seeking to build careers in arts
administration in a post-covid landscape.
Commence a period of R&D, to explore how a coherent and expanded programme of upskllllng and
Ilf&long leaming could be provided for freelancers Wofking in the Iheatre industry. The R&D was
8UPPOrted by Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Continue our collaboration wth ENOA (European Network of Opera Academies), ￿rkIng wth its 12
member organisations across Europe, supporting ihem through their EU Commission-fund8J
Empowering Opera Pfogramme, to implemenl more equitable processes in Euro pean opera-making.
Continue to offer our Platfomi p18yS to schools, colleges and youth thealre organisations. Platfomi iq

girfs and young ￿rnen taking part in youth drama.

During the year, Tonic Theatre continued to employ a Director, a Senior D81ivery Lead, three Delivery Leads
and an Office Coordinator. A new post, Events & Projects Coordinalorwas created. Due to three members of
the team being on matemity leave at various point during the year we increased our team through a
combination of permanent and f ixed-temi staff , In addition to expanding the team of core salaried st8ff, Ton
Theatre continued to V*ork wth a pool of freelance associate practitioners who deliver t raining and work on our
projects.
In tem8 of th8 Board of Trustees, Tonic Thealre's trustees Craig 88nnett and Moira Buffini continued lo act
as Interim Co-chair roles. A recruitment process fora new Chair secured Saratt Holme3. dueto start as Chair
from summer 2024,
Tonic Theatre will c¢nlinue lo deliver its prog ramme of training and consultancy. its Participate programme lor
drama schools, its Changem8kers prograrnmeforpeople leading EDI K)rk in the arts and cultural sector. and
its range of Plalfomi plays f or s¢hools and youth the8lre8. In addition, il plans to..
Pres8nt the findings of our research collaboration V￿th Roy81 Central School of Speech and Drama,
examining challenges and barriers lo young people seeking to build careers in arts administration in

the organisation. Our aim is lor th[$ role to be in place by summer 2024.
The Director and 808rd V*ill be working on a new strategi¢ plan f or the charity to t8ke it through the period 1￿M
2025 to 2028.
