The objectives of the CIO are, for the public benefit, the advancement of the Christian faith in such ways that the charity trustees may from time to time decide.

Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)

CCS meets in the church building at 43 Barnard Street, Salisbury, on weekends for worship, and midweek for other church and community activities. Our Sunday worship services are typically followed by refreshments and Sunday School, during which time adults and children gather into age-specific groups for study, discussion and building relationships. The children's Sunday School is led by Mrs. Rachel Finch, with other teachers providing assistance with children as needed.

Our Minister, Revd. Mark Payne, who was appointed on 1st July 2019 continues in that role. We also appointed an Assistant Minister, Mr. David Thornhill-Smith, on Sep 1st 2021, and he and his family have since relocated to Salisbury.

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

Our regular weekly and monthly meetings have all taken place as planned during the course of 2022/23. This includes meeting weekly for Sunday worship and midweek prayer, and monthly for a church lunch for members, visitors, local friends and neighbours. Our regular “Food & Chat” sessions, providing a hot meal and a time for building relationships, specifically for those resident at the Alabare hostel across the road from the church building, have also taken place and been well received, with sometimes over a dozen guests attending. We also continue to care for those in our church community by providing hospitality, transport to hospital appointments and care during “shut-ins”.

Our "Tots and Toys” group continues to meet weekly in the holidays and is well received in the community. This runs in the holiday breaks bringing in mothers, fathers, childminders and grandparents from the Salisbury area for a fun morning for their children, followed by refreshments. We current have approximately a dozen families who attend regularly. The involvement of one of our church members in the “Street Pastor” ministry in Salisbury and the surrounding areas, is also ongoing. This work helps to combat problems associated with alcohol, sexual assault and drugs.

Our open community discussion events entitled “Conversations About Life”, in which we invite expert guest speakers to address topics such as science, health, archaeology and other disciplines, continued in 2023 with an interview and discussion with Billy McCurrie, a previously convicted terrorist, now church pastor. These continue to foster good conversations in Salisbury about important issues which affect us all. Christ Church Salisbury is blessed with having a committed membership of dedicated and faithful Christians, all seeking to love both God and neighbour.
