Purposes of the Charity

To relieve persons in Broxbourne and areas nearby that are in financial hardship in such ways as the Trustees from time to time think fit, in particular, but not exclusively by:

Review of Activities during the year to carry out those purposes (for the public benefit)

The Foodbank has 2 distribution Centres

●The HUB. Holdbrook, Waltham Cross Wednesday 1.30-2.30pm (July to August 2020 we operated from Holdbrook School Car Park) During Lockdowns we operated a daily delivery service and this has now been reduced to Friday only.

The year was disrupted by Covid but we only had to close for one and a half days.

Food donations.

The foodbank continued to receive donations from Government, County Council, Broxbourne Council, individuals and community groups. Many of the previously regular donors started to donate money rather than food, which can be clearly seen in the accounts.

Collections are still made from stores where collection baskets are in place – Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsburys. Collection of bread from Warburtons has continued. During the pandemic many stores made extra donations.

The foodbank stopped all fresh food collections, we also stopped the collection of clothing, household items and baby equipment as there was no way of collecting or passing them on safely.

Food distribution

Food parcels were distributed at our centres following Covid regulations. Many parcels were delivered to the vulnerable and those shielding by many volunteers on a daily basis.

These volunteers came from many walks of life – Publicans and their staff, teachers, store managers ,trustees, those on furlough and the local MP.

During the year we provided 4790parcels, feeding 6910 adults and 5897 children.

We gave out 102777Kg food

Additional Support.

Broxbourne Council still provides the warehouse at a peppercorn rent. Echo Packaging supply all the bags used for parcels.

Raising awareness of Broxbourne foodbank within the local community.

During the pandemic we have not been able to give talks about the foodbank and therefore there have been no opportunities to raise awareness of the foodbank.

We do not use social media.

Volunteers.

The pandemic caused us to lose several of the elderly and vulnerable volunteers through the necessity to shield.

The foodbank became reliant upon a close band of volunteers who provided all the work needed.

All the social help that we did to support the less able in society also had to cease.

All PPE equipment, sanitiser and testing kits were provided for volunteers. Track and Trace was in operation.

Responsibility of Trustees for Public Benefit

The trustees, in making decisions about activities, have had due regard to the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance when exercising any powers or duties to which the guidance is relevant. Communications to the public are by means of the Broxbourne Foodbank website and Facebook.

Future Plans

The pandemic has affected the foodbank greatly in many ways. How it will come out after the pandemic is over is a question that cannot be answered.

All that can be said is the core provision of food to those in crisis will continue.

Re Broxbourne Foodbank Account 2020-2021

This is to confirm that I have studied the accounts for Broxbourne Foodbank. I have checked income and expense ledgers, the Petty Cash Account and Bank statements and can find no discrepancies or misuse of funds.
