|Summary of the main<br>activities in relation to<br>those  purposes  for  the<br>public<br>benefit,<br>in<br>particular,  the  activities,<br>projects or services<br>identified in the accounts.|Para 1.17 and<br>1.19|- LSPCA UK focuses on supporting<br>veterinary and education programmes for<br>the benefit  of animal welfare, particularly<br>with: LSPCA Malawi (including the Centre<br>for Animal Welfare’s programmes and<br>LSPCA’s Veterinary Hospital, the only one<br>in Malawi), Malawi’s Veterinary School at<br>Lilongwe University of Agriculture and<br>Natural Resources (LUANAR) and the<br>Malawi Veterinary Association.<br>- Donnamarie O’Connell, volunteer<br>secretary to the LSPCA UK Board, visited<br>Malawi twice in 2022 and met with LSPCA<br>CEO and staff to discuss ongoing support,<br>including plans to provide additional<br>veterinary equipment for LSPCA’s<br>veterinary  hospital.  LSPCA  UK  trustees<br>agreed  a  grant  for  veterinary  equipment<br>(gas anaesthesia machine and x-ray<br>plates) but due to supplier delays this was<br>not  paid  and  shipped  until  March  2023.|





|||LSPCA UK continued to support LSPCA in<br>Malawi through veterinary and animal<br>welfare  guidance.  The  Chair  maintained<br>contact with LUANAR veterinary graduates<br>and continued to explore opportunities for<br>collaboration between LSPCA/LUANAR<br>and UK universities.|

## **Achievements and Performance**

|Summary of the main<br>achievements of the<br>charity, identifying the<br>difference the charity’s<br>work  has  made  to  the<br>circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and any<br>wider  benefits  to  society<br>as a whole.|Para 1.20|- 2022 was an exciting year for LSPCA as<br>they moved into new, purpose-built<br>premises. The new Veterinary Hospital has<br>excellent consult rooms, theatre, lab and<br>post-op  facilities.  Additionally,  there  is  a<br>welcoming reception area for clients,<br>multiple offices for programmes staff,<br>meeting rooms and a large open space for<br>meetings and events. The new kennels and<br>cattery  provide  excellent  accommodation<br>for LSPCA’s shelter animals awaiting<br>adoption and boarding kennels provide an<br>additional source of income.<br>-The new facilities ensure that the highest<br>standards of veterinary medicine possible<br>in Malawi can be delivered.<br>-  LSPCA  continues  to  provide  internship<br>placements for LUANAR veterinary<br>students, and international veterinary<br>students including from the UK, which is<br>also  easier  with  expanded  clinical  and<br>office space. LSPCA  UK is working  with<br>LSPCA to further expand international vet<br>student placements.<br>The launch event for the new building in<br>March  2022  was  presided  over  by  the<br>Principal Secretary for Agriculture and the<br>Director<br>of<br>Veterinary<br>Services,<br>emphasising the excellent relationship<br>LSPCA has with government and was well<br>attended by trustees, clients and<br>supporters.|
