in veterinary care
4) The prevention and suppression of
cruelty and relief of suffering among
animals generally - in particular by funding
and supporting the work and related
programmes of the Lilongwe Society for the

1.19|- LSPCA UK focuses on supporting
veterinary and education programmes for
the benefit of animal welfare, particularly
with: LSPCA Malawi (including the Centre
for Animal Welfare’s programmes and
LSPCA’s Veterinary Hospital, the only one
in Malawi), Malawi’s Veterinary School at
Lilongwe University of Agriculture and
Natural Resources (LUANAR) and the
Malawi Veterinary Association.
- Donnamarie O’Connell, volunteer
secretary to the LSPCA UK Board, visited
Malawi twice in 2022 and met with LSPCA
CEO and staff to discuss ongoing support,
including plans to provide additional
veterinary equipment for LSPCA’s
veterinary hospital. LSPCA UK trustees
agreed a grant for veterinary equipment
(gas anaesthesia machine and x-ray
plates) but due to supplier delays this was
not paid and shipped until March 2023.| |||LSPCA UK continued to support LSPCA in
Malawi through veterinary and animal
welfare guidance. The Chair maintained
contact with LUANAR veterinary graduates
and continued to explore opportunities for
collaboration between LSPCA/LUANAR

as a whole.|Para 1.20|- 2022 was an exciting year for LSPCA as
they moved into new, purpose-built
premises. The new Veterinary Hospital has
excellent consult rooms, theatre, lab and
post-op facilities. Additionally, there is a
welcoming reception area for clients,
multiple offices for programmes staff,
meeting rooms and a large open space for
meetings and events. The new kennels and
cattery provide excellent accommodation
for LSPCA’s shelter animals awaiting
adoption and boarding kennels provide an
additional source of income.
-The new facilities ensure that the highest
standards of veterinary medicine possible
in Malawi can be delivered.
- LSPCA continues to provide internship
placements for LUANAR veterinary
students, and international veterinary
students including from the UK, which is
also easier with expanded clinical and
office space. LSPCA UK is working with
LSPCA to further expand international vet
student placements.
The launch event for the new building in
March 2022 was presided over by the
Principal Secretary for Agriculture and the
Director
of
Veterinary
Services,
emphasising the excellent relationship
LSPCA has with government and was well
attended by trustees, clients and
