LABRADORS

Labradors In Need Trustees Annual Report for
the period 1st June 2023 to 31" May 2024
Achievements and performance
Since founding LIN, the charity has successfully re-homed 1097 Labradors and Labrador Cr05s Breeds
lat the end of May 2024} into family homes. This number includes the long term family foster homes
for dogs that cannot be re-homed due to age or ill health. One such example, we were asked to take
in a 2yr old yellow female Labrador due to malnourishment and neglect. Luna also had a terrible skin
condition. With love and support from her long term foster family, Luna is now a happy healthy girl.
Sadly she will have this skin condition for life, but it is being managed successfully with regular vet
visits, Again the cost of livin8 crisis has also seen a few of our adopted do8s having to come back into
rescue this year. We have thankfully managed to successfully rehome them all. To date, we currently
have 13 long term foster do85 of various ages, with various health conditions needing ongoing vet
care.
The cost of living crisis hasn't had a significant impact on the overall runnin8 of the rescue, from the
transport runs for the re-homing of dogs, carrying out home checks, dog assessments etc. Our
experienced volunteers continue to support LIN, and each dog needing to come into rescue
continues to be assessed and transported in a safe and controlled manner. This year again the cost
of living crisis has seen a significant increase in the amount of enquiries received and an increase in
the amount of dogs that are needing to be re-homed. We are still experiencing a larger than normal
amount of "teenage" dogs needing to be re-homed, which we believe is Still due to the after effects
of Covid 19, the lack of experience, coupled with the increased cost of living and people returning to
work. We have also seen an increase in the amount of puppies and younger dogs that need
rehoming.
The continuous raising of funds through internet campaigns and social media groups, for on-going
vet bills including vaccinations, neuter, spaying. micro chipping, flea & worm treatment, the
unexpected larger vet bills that often occur, and the continuous health checks or medication for
Long Term Foster Dogs. Our fundraising team again managed to create various events using social
media, Zoorn, Skype and Teams to raise these much needed funds. Spreading the word of the charitv
was also done using these methods. The fundraising team also managed to attend a few family d08
show events, the Yorkshire Tough Mudder 2023 and one volunteer ran the London Marathon, we
have thankfully seen a very slight increase in funds compared to previous years.
LIN continues to work with other registered animal charities, and together successfully managed to
re home a number of dogs together. Again we are proud to have managed to re home quite a few
more bonded pairs of Labrador and non-Labrador breeds, ensuring they were kept together, and
living out their twilight years as a family. We were also called out to help a young Labrador Mum and
her 6 pups. They all went into foster care for health assessments. Once ready they were all
successfully rehomed.

Labradors In Need Trustees Annual Report for
the period 1st June 2023 to 31st May 2024
Again this year we managed to slightly increase the number of volunteers throu8h successful
advertising campaigns via the internet and other social media methods. People working from home
meant that more people were able to offer their services via social media, internet, online meeting
platforms etc. Labradors In Need successfully expanded its volunteer base during the year, and has
become an established, somewhat small, but a well known charity. This has enabled us to help re
home a larger amount of dogs. The same as last year we sadly saw a few members of various
volunteering teams leave the rescue due to personal reasons, and an advertising campaign was
raised to recruit more volunteers. The respective teams are slowly getting back to a healthy level of
volunteers, and the personnel involved are proving to be an invaluable service to the rescue.
The fundraising volunteers are again proving to be an extremely well managed team, and are always
looking at different ways in which we can actively fundraise, and how to gather more help with
f uture fundraising. We forecast that we will possibly increase our team of fundraisers as life has
become 'normal' again and the team will strive to attend more fundraising event5.
Research & training undertaken into the welfare, wellbein8 and behaviour of dogs. Including agility
training and canine first aid. We continue to have 2 qualif led dog trainerlbehaviourist volunteers
who have already proven themselves by providing excellent advice and guidance to our foster and
adoptive families. Both volunteers are on hand to help and advise with any issues that arise such as
anxiety or behavioural problems.

Dear Sirs,

## **Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of ‘Labradors In Need’ (Charity No: 1157110)**

I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31[st] May 2024, which are set out on the receipts and payments accounts form attached.

## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**

As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).

The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

- examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act.

- to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act.

- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

## **Basis of independent examiner’s report**

My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the next statement.

## **Independent examiner’s statement**

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or

- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or

- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
