Annual Chairman’s Report — Hawthorn Community Centre
Year Ending 31st December 2025
Hawthorn Community Centre continues to serve as a welcoming hub for our local community, supporting a wide range of activities and events. Our purpose and a management committee is to foster community spirit, reduce social isolation and be a welcoming environment for everyone who uses the centre.
Our achievements are only possible thanks to the dedication of the volunteers on our management committee and active community members. However, we need more hands on deck. I urge anyone interested in making a difference to consider lending a hand. Greater involvement will help us expand our offerings and strengthen our community spirit.
The secretary role remains vacant. I would like to extend my gratitude to Sheila, who has provided invaluable interim support alongside her actual role as Treasurer. Her commitment has ensured that our committee meetings and bookings timetable continues to operate smoothly.
Our coffee mornings, led by Lesa, have brought warmth and conversation to many. Carolyn’s stewardship of the library and garden has created engaging spaces for relaxation and learning. Regular renters, including Sarah, the art groups, and yoga sessions, have helped maintain a lively and varied schedule for our centre.
In 2025 we hosted several important public service activities, such as the housing consultation, grid connection discussions, BESS information sessions, and the NES&AR charity night. Social events included the Christmas lunch, trail run, armed forces coffee mornings, Easter celebration, and the Macmillan summer social, all of which contributed to a vibrant and inclusive community atmosphere.
Our membership numbers in 2025 remain lower than hoped, which is an ongoing concern. In response, we are implementing a new approach for 2026 to boost engagement and attract a broader range of participants. We encourage all current members to invite friends and neighbours to join and experience what the centre has to offer.
We have made progress with building improvements, including replacing chairs and ensuring the centre remains safe, comfortable, and compliant with necessary regulations. Regular maintenance and checks have kept our facilities in good condition, supporting the smooth running of all activities.
On behalf of the committee, I extend heartfelt thanks to all who contribute their time, energy, and enthusiasm to the Hawthorn Community Centre. Looking ahead to 2026, we are committed to building on our achievements, addressing challenges, and fostering an even stronger sense of community. Your support and involvement will be crucial—please consider volunteering or becoming more engaged so we can continue to thrive together.
