**Annual Report from Lead Trustee Susan Jennings for April 5[th] 2024- April 4[th] 2025 Annual General Meeting 26[th] May 2025** ## **Children and Families in Need in Zimbabwe (CFNZ) Registered charity no: 1156967** **UK Head Office – (Since February 1[st] 2019)** ‘Pencae’, Llanfaethlu, Holyhead, Ynys Mon, LL65 4HH The aims and objectives for the charity have been met this past 12 months. We became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on the 8[th] May 2014. ## **Trustees-** Susan Mary Jennings **(** L **e** ad trustee **)** Ruth Elizabeth Jennings (Treasurer) appointed November 2019 Brendan Simmons (Chair Meetings) appointed November 2019 Francis Davidson -appointed August 2017 Lesley West – appointed November 2024 **The objectives of the charity are** The relief of poverty of children and families in Zimbabwe by such means as the trustees in their absolute discretion see fit. ## **The aims of the charity is to supply funds for:** Education and training; the advancement of health and relief of poverty; religious activities; economic, building and community development and employment, for all ages, within the general public. ## **Bank account details and investments-** **CAF** - Cash Account CFNZ: 00024308 Sort code- 405240 Gold Account CFNZ 00097621 **COOP –CFNZ Community Account** -65893728 Sort Code- 089299 Assetz investments- in account £11,756 ## **Activity report:** I visited Tim for 3 weeks last May to audit the charity, and to enjoy a short break with Tim in Victoria Falls. My report was distributed last June. Fr. Tim visited the UK last August and September. We 4 trustees were able to meet on zoom while he was here. He visited Yate, Chipping Sodbury, Chatham, Anglesey and Bury St. Edmunds R C Churches to say Mass and meet the parishioners, many of whom gave him donations. He met with Ruth, Brendan and myself in person too, and Lesley, who we were delighted to welcome as a new trustee in November 2024. Tim continues to keep very busy with various building projects, and his priestly duties as the area Dean. Dambwamkulu Secondary School being sponsored by a private donor is progressing well. The irrigation system and dam at the Mission are complete, so vegetables are being grown, for 45 households to be able to grow vegetables for themselves, and to sell. The chicken project ended in January 2024, but we gave the children at the hostel a small grant to buy 25 chickens at point of lay, and they are doing well. Florence and Hardness who work in the sewing room, continue to make and sell garments, though Hardness recently had to take leave to care for her sick husband, who sadly passed away. The project was reviewed while I was visiting, and they were encouraged to be as self-sufficient as they can. At Neshaya Secondary school, the children were growing vegetables, but a 6[th] Form is now being built on the site, and a new site has been found and developed for the garden. I visited the site while I was there. Following my visit, we raised sufficient funds for a school irrigation system for Makwa Primary school, and vegetables are being grown by the children. They now need to secure the fences however to prevent goats eating the crops. We are sending £150 a month to them to provide a meal for each of the 250 children, 2 days a week in school term. This was made possible due to taking out a CAF donate account with our bank, and asking people to change their Direct debits to this account. Several donors kindly increased their giving and several new donors signed up. CAF donate claim back the Gift Aid for us every week, so I don’t have to do this, which is great. Our principal donor has again increased his amount of giving monthly, at Tim’s request, which we are most grateful for. We are always looking for more people to kindly start a Direct debit however, so we can feed more children, 90% of whom only get one meal a day. We have been able to send all monthly amounts due to Fr. Tim via the COOP and CAF banks, or money companies as needed. We continue to be challenged by the banking system, but have managed to overcome these, for collection every month in Zimbabwe. Sending to a business account has meant Tim’s secretary can withdraw larger amounts, which saves him time and bank charges. ## **Fundraising and Publicity April 2024- April 2025** ## **Fundraising** Regular contact with a benefactor resulted in a donation of £15,000. The twice-yearly newsletter we send out from Fr. Tim helps maintain interest, and generous donations on a one-off basis. We held several events including an African evening on Anglesey to raise funds for projects, for my trip to Zimbabwe in May 2024, and I was able to take £4,600 due to generous donations too, for any projects Tim felt he needed, it is a ‘bottomless pit! We had a follow up evening for me to report back on my visit to Zimbabwe, and for donors to meet Tim, while he was on Anglesey; and a Quiz night at a pub, and raised £1170. In total we raised £4000 for Makwa school garden, and a further £1500 was donated to extend Mwemba Primary school library. Gift Aid claimed amounted to £1275 in March 2024. There are 20 Direct Debits in the CAF accounts, giving regularly, which we are most grateful for. ## **Proposed Fundraising for April 2025-April 2026** We were successful in gaining Match funding from the Big Give charity for £2,500, which was doubled up to that amount, at the end of April 2025. This enabled us to create an irrigation system for a second Primary school, at Mwemba. Next year we will organise an African evening for April 2026. Various activities have been planned and the website updated to encourage others to give donations. All the people on our mailing list are aware of the Match funding and have been encouraged to hold a fund-raising activity then. I also made good links with Llandudno Rotary Club, when I spoke there in February 2025, and they are kindly offering other financial help, as they feel they can. I hope to speak at other Rotary Clubs and U3A clubs. It is a challenge to get a positive response, however. ## **Publicity** We will maintain contact with our regular donors as we send out Fr. Tim’s newsletter twice a year, to over 200 people. The details of the website are included in the newsletter . The web site has been updated and is on Facebook.. Our updated tri-fold publicity leaflet is on our website. The events to be held during the Big Give week of 22[nd] -29[th] April 2026 in Holyhead will further publicise the charity. ## **Internal communications** The Trustees held meetings: May, July and November 2024, and March 2025 by Zoom. Our Annual General meeting will be held on the 26[th] May by zoom. We received three budgets from Fr. Tim requesting funds for 4 month periods, and were able to approve them all without alteration, as they came within the monies held and available. He requested extra funds, mostly for building, as detailed in his Annual Report, which were received with thanks from his benefactor. ## **Summary** Overall this has been a very successful eleventh year, with Fr.Tim being able to keep up with his projects in community development, for the poorest of families. The bequest of 2018 is diminishing, but we received extra donations from several benefactors. We would appreciate any support you can offer, and your prayers.
