The charity has a document (Brighouse Organisation, Policies, Rules and Regulations) approved by the Trustees and members at the AGM that covers the procedures, health and safety, DBS checks, accounting and duties of members. The document aims to ensure anybody can takeover a role in the organisation and know what is required.

The objects of the CIO are to preserve and protect the health of people in Calderdale and surrounds who have suffered a cardiac event or are at risk of such an event by providing facilities, support and rehabilitation.

The Trustees have fulfilled their Public Benefit requirements under severe restrictions due to the pandemic. 

Due to Covid we were closed for long periods. We held Zoom classes up to 18 May. Walks restarted on 13 April. 

Covid-19 Guidance for classes and walks were issued to all Members and updated in line with Government Guidance. 

**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** 

HEARTBEAT provided Exercise / Tai Chi classes, walks / health walks, classes and social events to meet its objectives and for the public benefit. In 2021 we ran: 

- 130 Exercise Classes 

• 32 Zoom Exercise Classes 

• 52 Tai Chi Classes 

• 16 Zoom Tai Chi Classes 

- 4 Social Events 

- 48 Walks / Health Walks 

One 24/7 AED installed at Water’s Edge Nursery. HEARTBEAT worked with the communities in Calderdale to maintain 11 public access 24/7 AED’s 

On 23 August we held a Memorial Day. HEARTBEAT Members raised over £1,000 to purchase 3 benches and plaques for the 13 Members lost during the pandemic. The families of the deceased were invited to the unveiling and over 70 attended.

With the exception of the qualified trainers for Tai Chi and Exercise classes every activity is manned by volunteers. During 2020 no expenses or any other payments were made to any volunteer. 

The AGM approves / rejects ongoing investments proposed by the Trustees. In 2021 there were no major investments.

Section D                      Achievements and performance 

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

Membership decreased from 245 to 228. Attendances decreased due to Covid restrictions and the loss of 13 Members during the pandemic: Exercise Class attendance increased by 56.2% Tai Chi Class attendance increased by 32.0% Walks / Health Walks attendance increased by 30.6% Social events attendance no change Overall attendance increased by 42.9% 

We fund all of our room hire costs, trainer costs and equipment. 

We set up a Contact service for members who were lonely during the pandemic. 

When allowed, we ran Covid secure walks and classes. Spending £120 on PPE.
