Our purposes as set out in our Constitution are the relief of poverty in Nantwich and the surrounding areas in particular but not exclusively by providing emergency food supplies to individuals and families in need and/or charities or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty. We are grateful to the people and businesses of Nantwich and surrounding areas for providing emergency food supplies for us to help individuals and families in need. The collection points in local supermarkets provided 78% of supplies donated (2024: 73%) with the balance coming in from schools, churches, individuals and businesses. An additional quantity of supplies were purchased as necessary to cover shortages. In the year to 31 March 2025 we issued 1,353 food parcels (2024: 1,734) equivalent to 28,000 meals and helped 250 households (2024; 307) comprising 832 adults (2024: 1,033) and 521 children (2024: 701). In addition at Christmas 2024 we provided parcels for 407 (Christmas 2023: 501) people of whom 218 (Christmas 2023: 188) were children. As in the previous year there has been a reduction in the number of people referred to us. The number of individual households helped fell by 19%. However, households that had never visited us before made up 45% of referrals although overall referrals were down by 13%. Food Banks in adjoining areas have also seen a reduction while numbers have increased in other areas of the country. There has been a diminution of donations of 14% which has matched the reduction in food parcels. Where we have an excess of particular items we are able to pass them on to other Trussell Trust Food Banks as well as to St Paul’s Pantry, Lighthouse, Chance Changing Lives and Motherwell so nothing goes to waste. Clients are referred to us by as many as 58 different agencies including Citizens Advice, Nantwich Library, all the local schools and colleges, Cheshire East Council and other organisations dealing with substance abuse, domestic abuse, mental health and homelessness. Client’s needs are identified so that they can be signposted to agencies able to help them resolve their difficulties. We are able to issue fresh vegetables, bread and eggs in our food parcels which is greatly appreciated. The Trustees have received training from outside agencies on Safeguarding and GDPR and continue to review and refine Governance procedures. Volunteers have received training in Health and Safety and goods handling as required. We are exploring improved systems and processes for supporting volunteers in the management and monitoring of donations received and issued. The Trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives and in planning future activities. ## **Acknowledgements** The Trustees are grateful to the 56 hard-working volunteers without whom the Food Bank could not operate. Last year we received from grants to provide low value supermarket gift vouchers from the Julia and Hans Rausing Trust and from Storengy Limited. In the year under review these have been provided from other donations received. - 3 The Trussell Trust Each Foodbank in the Trussell Trust network is allocated a proportion of the financial donations given by partner supermarkets based on the weight of donations collected in their stores. In our case this relates to collections at Tesco, Crewe. - 4 Sue Pritchard, who is a Trustee, is a part owner of the premises where the Food Bank supplies are stored. - 5 Delivery Van The running costs of the van for the year cover fuel, maintenance and insurance. - 6 Reserve The Trustees have set a policy of maintaining unrestricted reserves roughly equivalent to one year’s expenditure. This is in view of the irregularity of the Charity's income and the time needed to take action if income should fall below requirements and to allow an orderly winding-up of the Charity should sources of income cease. The amount was increased after the previous year end from £30,000 to £60,000. It is held in a dedicated account with the Charities Aid Foundation. - 7 Donations in Kind We continue to be supported by the people of Nantwich and district who donate food and toiletries through the collecting boxes at St Mary’s Church office, St Anne’s Catholic Church, Nationwide Building Society and Sainsburys, Morrisons and Marks & Spencer supermarkets in the town, at the Co-op in Stapeley and at Tesco supermarket in Crewe. Schools, churches, community groups and local companies also provide donations for us in both cash and kind.
