wide range arts-based actvity for our local
community. These actvites are benefcial for
the community’s health and wellbeing, they
provide employments for artsts and creatves,
they support educaton and learning, and they
help to being the community together.
Our 4-day Festval in 2023 was very well
atended and we packed a broad range of
events into the festval that included both
partcipatory arts experiences and
performance-based events. This included early-
years and pre-school music sessions and other
children’s art workshops, as well as a family
day in the park with DJ’s, skate compettons
and graft art. We also hosted a workshop on
sound producton for women and non-binary
people, who are signifcantly less represented
in the business. We also supported the
producton of a monologue theatre
performance writen and performed by several
members of the Royal Exchange Elders
company. We feel that with these events we
were able to give a platorm to
underrepresented groups and provide free and
afordable, easy to access, arts-focussed
actvity for our community.
Our lantern parade is partcularly special and
benefcial, breaking down many of the barriers
to arts partcipaton by working for free in
schools and presentng the fnal performance
in a free community space. It allowed the
children taking part to have fun and make
mess, with each child having created their own
lantern by the end of the day. Working in
schools is of partcular beneft, as teaching tme
and budgets for art is being squeezed.
Unfortunately, this year Storm Babet arrived
on the day of our fnal Parade, so we were
forced topostpone,but we were able to| reschedule the event to allow our participants the opportunity to share their creations with their families and wider community. As a small semi-rural town, we feel that it is important to give residents the opportunity to experience high quality artistic work in their local community, something that they would normally need to travel to larger cities to experience. We work hard to find and champion local artistic talent and provide a platform for local artists to gain work and build their careers. Attendees and community members have told us that having events such as ours happening in the town was one of the best things about living in the area and that it significantly improved the local environment and the wellbeing of local residents. **Additional information (optional)** You may choose to include further statements where relevant about: |
