Chairman’s report 2025
The year got off to challenging start as we struggled to recruit sufficient people to run the show. However we managed to pull together a committee who all worked extremely hard to allow the show to continue. Direct recruitment also resulted in extra helpers for setting up and volunteering on the day.
The show attracted plenty of competitors, sheep numbers were especially high but we also had plenty of entries in the horses and ponies, vintage, produce, dog and terrier sections. The fell race also offered dedicated junior races this year. There was a varied range of trade and community stands and the craft demonstration tent was also very popular. Members of the public were able to access a range of catering options and A & P Bilsdale Catering provided an excellent luncheon for Vice-presidents and judges.
Our nominated charity partner was the Farming Community Network who raised £704.43 through programme sales and donations as well as offering advice and support to visitors.
The fair weather attracted a good crowd, who all seemed to enjoy themselves, displays were provided by Bewholme Shire Horses, Owl Adventures and music by The Bilsdale Silver Band and Crash, Bang Wallop youth theatre company. There were also the usual children’s sports, quoits and terrier racing as well as the adventure of the Climbing Wall and a chance to meet the hounds and beagles.
There were no major problems and lots of positive feedback, the committee are now evaluating how we can make 2026 even better.
I would like to extend my deepest thanks to all those who contributed in any way to making Bilsdale Show 2025 such a success and I look forward to the future of the show with optimism.
