Objects
The object of the CIO is, for the public benefit, the advancement of education in accordance with Christian principles, in the United Kingdom and such other parts of the world as the charity trustees may from time to time decide.
Aims and Activities
1. To nurture and support Early Years practitioners and settings holding Christian values This was delivered through regular newsletters and emails, our magazine Early Days ; our website www.Love Early Years.com . We were able to offer Zoom webinars in Developing a Loving Pedagogy, Seeing your child God’s way, Understanding the EYFS reforms, Setting up a Rural Kindergarten and Reviewing an Ofsted Inspection, and replaced meetings and visits with phone calls, emails, an online Manager’s Forum and support notes by our Development Coordinator. We also increased the
number of magazine articles available through our website and social media platforms. We changed our monthly prayer meeting from a day where partners were encouraged to pray at home on their own, to a Zoom prayer meeting monthly where partners and church members could connect and pray together.
The public benefit is that through nurturing and supporting practitioners we reduce the isolation in which many operate and create meaningful networks.
2.To advocate a holistic approach to Early Years care and education and encourage the highest quality care and education by offering mentoring and training.
During the past year training took place on Zoom for Developing a Loving Pedagogy, Seeing your child God’s way, Understanding the EYFS reforms, Setting up a Rural Kindergarten and Reviewing an Ofsted Inspection, and via an increased number of website blogs and social media posts on Developing a Loving Pedagogy, Physical Play, Supporting Transitions into Nursery and Preschool, Supporting Children and families during the pandemic. We substantially increased the number of free Early Years resources on our website to enable easy access, and introduced an online system for magazine subscriptions. Articles in Early Days magazine also included a training element. We kept our partners up to date with current research and campaigns and shared relevant articles via
Facebook and Twitter. Our main project during the pandemic has been the preparation of a manual that explores how young children develop spiritual awareness.
The public benefit is improved quality as settings and churches reflect on and adapt their practice. This distinctive play-based approach to education with a Christian ethos offers a wider choice for parents.
3. To foster relationships between individuals and organisations holding similar values and rationale, in the UK and overseas.
During the year our presence on Facebook continued to grow and the use of other social media helped to build relationships between partners and with a much wider constituency.
The public benefit is that we encouraged practitioners to learn from national and international settings in order to inform their professional knowledge and understanding which encourages the development of strong practice based on knowledge and understanding of how children learn.
Performance
Lucy Waterman continued to serve as freelance Development Coordinator. She maintained our presence on social media and developed some well attended webinars online. She has been gathering material and writing a practical manual on Nurturing Spirituality in the Under Fives.
Early Days magazine continued to be a valuable resource to our partners . The editor, Peter Michell continues to find relevant and informative articles from contributors in several countries.
There were no new trustees added during the year. We held our AGM and Trustee meetings on Zoom throughout the year.
This report was agreed by the Trustees at their meeting on 19[th] March 2022
