**Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)** 

OBJECT 1:  Throughout the year Charis Tiwala has relieved the charitable need of anyone they have come in to contact with who has been a victim of or affected by human trafficking or sexual exploitation, this includes (but not exclusively): practical and emotional support, advocacy, advice & signposting, sexual health advice. OBJECT 2:  Charis Tiwala has advanced the Christian faith by offering a Christian chaplaincy service on a weekly basis; doing outreach to people in the sex industry, by running weekly Bible studies for people in the sex industry and by taking the women who are interested to an online Christmas Carol service and online Bible study with Lambeth Palace. 

OBJECT 3:  Charis Tiwala has delivered one session of training about human trafficking and sexual exploitation (via zoom) to a community group – this was limited due to staff being on maternity leave. Charis Tiwala has also taken part in the Sex Worker briefing events hosted by Herts County Council Sexual Health Improvement Team. Charis has given advice and guidance to the group about how to make Health Services more accessible and approachable for people who may be in or affected by the sex industry.

The above objectives were achieved due to a dedicated team of 12 volunteers investing their time in Charis Tiwala and 5 part-time staff; working on the frontline with women at risk and doing administrative tasks.

Section D                      Achievements and performance 

**Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** 

Between April 2021 and March 31[st] , 2022 Charis Tiwala has directly offered support to 10 people who have been affected by human trafficking or sexual exploitation within the sex industry.  This is primarily through outreach to sex establishments and to those who are working on the streets, online outreach and key-working sessions with individuals who request ongoing support. 

Charis distributed 42 gifts and information about their services to local women who were at risk. 

Links with other agencies includes; local GP surgery, Herts County Council Health Improvement Team (where work has taken place together and plans have been made to offer a more accessible health service and emotional support for women in the sex industry), the local council’s Health Inequalities team, YMCA and New Hope (homelessness charity). Charis is a stakeholder in the Hertfordshire Sexual Health Network. 

Outputs achieved by Charis Tiwala: 

- 307 volunteer hours given for outreach to venues and women working on the streets, reaching on average 2 women per week and zoom meetings to pray. 

- 24 volunteer hours over the year given by the trustees. 

- - Regular key-work sessions with 6 women; focusing on emotional and practical support 

- - 16 Admin voluntary hours (IT and web support) - Weekly bible study group (1.5 hours per week) with 2-3 women regularly attending 

- 2 hours of training delivered about sexual exploitation and human trafficking to a community group 

- Charis has assisted in the planning and setting up of the Sirona Clinic with a local GP surgery.  It will be a holistic clinic (run by a GP, nurse, Charis staff and a member of Herts Help team who specialise in access to benefits and housing needs) and is a female only space for people who are in or affected by the sex industry, and also those who may be at risk of becoming involved will be welcome.  The clinic will be launched in May 2022.

## **Section E                    Financial review** 

Charis Tiwala’s trustees have decided that three months’ worth of **Brief statement of the** expenditure is an appropriate level of reserves. **charity’s policy on reserves** 

At the end of March 2022, the charity had £83,286.85 in reserve (more than the appropriate level set by the trustees). The extra reserve was due to two members of staff being on maternity leave in the year. 

The trustees need to hold reserves to include meeting fluctuations in receipts or payments and meeting specific future needs such as salaries for future staff.
