# **The Aiden Goodwin Foundation Trustees Report for Year End April 2022**

_The Aiden Goodwin Foundation Trustees are very proud to present their report and financial accounts for the year ended April 2022._

## _**The Charity is The Aiden Goodwin Foundation and the registration number is 1156802.**_

**The registered address for the Charity is as follows:** 9 Biddenden Way Istead Rise Kent DA13 9DE

**The Charity consists of the following four Trustees:** Terry Goodwin – Chairman Michelle Goodwin – Trustee Chris Hogben – Treasurer Tracy Hogben – Secretary

## **Objectives and Aims**

In January 2012, Aiden Goodwin was only 11 years old, he was a happy and caring boy, who loved playing football for his School and Sunday League Teams, as well listening to his favourite music with friends. Tragically it was at this time that Aiden was diagnosed with a rare aggressive tumour on his left kidney, after a hospital visit for a stomach complaint

Nothing could have prepared the family for this devastating news, and the huge impact it would have. Aiden endured nearly 2 years of chemotherapy and drug trials, never complaining once, and always had a smile for everyone. Sadly the tumour eventually spread to his liver, spine and pelvis, and Aiden finally lost his battle against this terrible disease in November 2013

The family are so proud of their son and felt that they wanted to carry Aiden’s name forward in some way, as well as helping other families going through a similar trauma, therefore The Aiden Goodwin Foundation was created.

**Registered Charity No: 1156802**

The Aiden Goodwin Foundation became a registered children’s charity in April 2014 and is completely non-profit making. The team of four are all completely voluntary, no salary or revenue is taken. Aside from necessary minor expenses, all monies raised go 100% towards the Foundation’s goal.

The aim of The Aiden Goodwin Foundation is to bring a little happiness to children with life threatening illnesses and their families, to provide a time to be away together and to help create memories to keep forever in their hearts. The need is great for the children and their families to know that there is support and gestures of kindness there for them. To be aware that there are others that have gone through or are going through a similar experience to their own.

To achieve this vision the Foundation’s objective was to purchase and maintain a new 8 berth caravan, located on a holiday park on the South Coast, and for families to use the accommodation and facilities at their convenience totally free of charge. In the first 10 months the team worked extremely hard and raised the monies needed to purchase the first Aiden Goodwin Foundation caravan.

The hard work and amazing support network for the foundation, continued and the monies were raised to be able to purchase a second caravan in November 2017. The decision was made in 2020 to sell the two caravans and relocate to a far more cost effect site and to one caravan.

Unfortunately again, 2021-2022 was a low fund raising year for the Foundation, largely impacted still from the Coronavirus pandemic.

However, the site opened up on 12[th] April 2021 and the Foundation was delighted to welcome more children and families to the Foundation caravan. Feedback and messages from the families was wonderful and the caravan was well used from June through the whole summer season to the end of August.

The foundation improved the interior of the caravan, to make the stay for the families even more comfortable. A new fridge freezer was installed in January 2022, an outside tap so that the paddling pool can easily be filled and the outside of the caravan cleaned, along with an extractor fan and Nest controls for the heating.

The Aiden Goodwin Foundation team remain voluntary members, no salaries are taken and the Charity is completely reliant on donations, the aim remains that of providing continuing respite and breaks for the children and their families.

## **Our Caravan**

The brand new 3 bedroom Caravan which was purchased in August 2020 remains in good condition, along with the beautiful outside space and furniture. After each family stay, the caravan undergoes a deep and thorough clean, as well as the foundation members who will regularly clean the outside of the caravan. At the end of the season processes are strictly adhered to in order to maintain this, i.e. removal of all bedding, soft furnishes, and placement of damp traps to ensure through the winter months the condition remains good.

The caravan is as before available for the children and their families at no cost whatsoever. Everything is provided for their comfort and enjoyment, to make their stay as relaxing as possible, from bedding, kitchen equipment, outside furniture, BBQ, board games, games consoles and books.

**Registered Charity No: 1156802**

Their stay also includes VIP passes, for use in and around the park which entitles them to discounted food, drink and activities. The only costs that the families will incur would be their travel costs, food and any additional activities not included on the holiday park.

The families are all referred to us via Demelza Hospice, CLIC Sargent, Ellenor Lions Hospice (Chyps) and the Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey, following receipt of telephone or application form referral.

We gather feedback from every family that has a stay in the caravans. This is either by telephone, email or comments in our guest book, whichever is most appropriate for the family at that time. We often receive photos and messages which are heart-warming, of how the families have enjoyed their time and the huge relief it has provided for a short while.

## **Long Term Goals**

We were impacted greatly by the Coronavirus pandemic, yet we continue to have support from our followers and are hoping to hold the very successful charity ball once again towards the end of 2023.

We are continually monitoring our financial status and how our funds are going, in order to sustain and maintain our very valuable service to the children and their families who need our support.

## **Overview of Our Past Year**

Throughout April 2021 through to April 2022 we were only able to raise a total of £375.45.

Throughout the year we have had our regular donations from supporters via monthly direct debit donations and a few ad hoc donations. Of which again, we are so very grateful and thankful for these amazing and kind people.
