# **The Aiden Goodwin Foundation Trustees Report for Year End April 2021**

_The Aiden Goodwin Foundation Trustees are very proud to present their report and financial accounts for the year ended April 2021._

## _**The Charity is The Aiden Goodwin Foundation and the registration number is 1156802.**_

**The registered address for the Charity is as follows:** 9 Biddenden Way Istead Rise Kent DA13 9DE

**The Charity consists of the following four Trustees:** Terry Goodwin – Chairman Michelle Goodwin – Trustee Chris Hogben – Treasurer Tracy Hogben – Secretary

## **Objectives and Aims**

In January 2012, Aiden Goodwin was only 11 years old, he was a happy and caring boy, who loved playing football for his School and Sunday League Teams, as well listening to his favourite music with friends. Tragically it was at this time that Aiden was diagnosed with a rare aggressive tumour on his left kidney, after a hospital visit for a stomach complaint

Nothing could have prepared the family for this devastating news, and the huge impact it would have. Aiden endured nearly 2 years of chemotherapy and drug trials, never complaining once, and always had a smile for everyone. Sadly the tumour eventually spread to his liver, spine and pelvis, and Aiden finally lost his battle against this terrible disease in November 2013

The family are so proud of their son and felt that they wanted to carry Aiden’s name forward in some way, as well as helping other families going through a similar trauma, therefore The Aiden Goodwin Foundation was created.

**Registered Charity No: 1156802**

The Aiden Goodwin Foundation became a registered children’s charity in April 2014 and is completely non-profit making. The team of four are all completely voluntary, no salary or revenue is taken. Aside from necessary minor expenses, all monies raised go 100% towards the Foundation’s goal.

The aim of The Aiden Goodwin Foundation is to bring a little happiness to children with life threatening illnesses and their families, to provide a time to be away together and to help create memories to keep forever in their hearts. The need is great for the children and their families to know that there is support and gestures of kindness there for them. To be aware that there are others that have gone through or are going through a similar experience to their own.

To achieve this vision the Foundation’s objective was to purchase and maintain a new 8 berth caravan, located on a holiday park on the South Coast, and for families to use the accommodation and facilities at their convenience totally free of charge. In the first 10 months the team worked extremely hard and raised the monies needed to purchase the first Aiden Goodwin Foundation caravan.

The hard work and amazing support network for the foundation, continued and the monies were raised to be able to purchase a second caravan in November 2017.

Unfortunately the Coronavirus pandemic hit the Foundation hard during the last year. Fund raising has been extremely limited due to restrictions and the need to keep the Foundation supporters safe. The Foundation was extremely honoured and lucky to be awarded a grant for £7000, which has helped to ensure that funds remain at a level that the caravan can be maintained.

Additionally, in light of fund raising and rising costs at the original holiday park location, the decision was made to sell the two existing caravans, relocate the services of the Foundation to a more cost effective holiday park, into one caravan. This move was very positive and has also ensured that the Foundation can continue to support and help the children and their families who so desperately need these short breaks.

The children and families were able to start using the brand new caravan as covid restrictions eased, again the Foundation ensures that the break is stress free and easy for the families. The new Haven Allhallows holiday park also offers numerous activities and enjoyment for all the family.

The continuing feedback that has been received from the families is both wonderful and inspiring.

The Aiden Goodwin Foundation team are all voluntary members, no salaries are taken and the Charity is completely reliant on donations. The supporters are consistent and very passionate about the Foundation’s cause and it is through this amazing support network and the local community that the team have been able to achieve their goals so far and continue to do so.

## **Our Caravan**

The first 3 Bedroom Willoughby Salsa Eco Caravan was purchased and available for families as from May 2015. The second 3 bedroomed caravan was purchased in November 2017. Due to rising site fees and overheads, along with fund raising greatly depleted due to the pandemic, the decision was made to sell the first two caravans and purchase one caravan at a different Haven Holiday Park to reduce costs. The brand new 3 bedroom Caravan was purchased in August 2020 following the successful sale of the 2 original caravans. This move has greatly increased the financial position for the Foundation.

**Registered Charity No: 1156802**

The caravan is as before available for the children and their families at no cost whatsoever. Everything is provided for their comfort and enjoyment, to make their stay as relaxing as possible, from bedding, kitchen equipment, outside furniture, BBQ, board games, games consoles and books.

Their stay also includes VIP passes, for use in and around the park which entitles them to discounted food, drink and activities. The only costs that the families will incur would be their travel costs, food and any additional activities not included on the holiday park.

The families are all referred to us via Demelza Hospice, CLIC Sargent, Ellenor Lions Hospice (Chyps) and the Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey, following receipt of telephone or application form referral.

We gather feedback from every family that has a stay in the caravans. This is either by telephone, email or comments in our guest book, whichever is most appropriate for the family at that time. We often receive photos and messages which are heart-warming, of how the families have enjoyed their time and the huge relief it has provided for a short while.

## **Long Term Goals**

We have been hit hard with the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic, having to cancel various events and fund raising activities. However, we have been very lucky with continued support from our amazing supporters and a grant that was awarded earlier in the year.

We are continually monitoring our financial status and how our funds are going, in order to sustain and maintain our very valuable service to the children and their families who need our support.

## **Overview of Our Past Year**

Throughout April 2020 through to April 2021 we were able to raise a total of £7575.00.

Throughout the year we have had our regular donations from supporters via monthly direct debit donations and ad hoc donations. Of which again, we are so very grateful and thankful for these amazing and kind people.
