PUBLICITY

In January, we shared the exciting news that Magnet Magazine featured us in a two-page, full-colour spread. We hope this article helps you share our work with others—be it through encouraging them to get involved, praying for our ministry, or spreading the word about what we do.

EDUCATION

Kenyan schools start their academic year in January

In January, we received wonderful news: a generous charity granted us funds to cover vital school expenses for our children in Kenya. We anticipated these funds in early February. However, due to a sudden bereavement within the granting charity, the funds were delayed, only being cleared by our bank yesterday.

exchange rates. As a result, when we finally sent the funds to Kenya yesterday, the unfavourable exchange rate meant we incurred an unexpected £500 loss.

We thank God that the shortfall was covered by our supporters

TRUSTEES

Our dedicated trustees and volunteers, including Val, Keith, Marilyn, and Ray, contribute countless unpaid hours to keep this ministry thriving. Ray & Marilyn average a minimum of 40 hours a week working unpaid for this ministry.

A DELAYED GRANT :

Sometimes, the most unexpected events can have a ripple eect, impacting lives thousands of miles away.

In January, we received wonderful news: a generous charity granted us funds to cover vital school expenses for our children in Kenya. We anticipated these funds in early February. However, due to a sudden bereavement within the granting charity, the funds were delayed, only being cleared by our bank yesterday.

Thankfully our supporters made up the dierence.

MONEY STOLEN

Every month on the 8th and the 22nd we send through the money to Home of Peace to pay for food, wages, and general running expenses to keep the children’s home operating.

The 8[th ] of February was a Saturday resulting in a slight delay. By the time they received it on Monday the bank there had closed so on Tuesday the money was withdrawn.

We have very strict protocols that when money is withdrawn from the bank 2 senior members of sta have to be present the entire time for security purposes.

We were informed that they were robbed on leaving the bank.

The next day we were told that the police have detained someone in connection with the robbery, and that person will be having a preliminary court hearing later today. Apparently, there is a suspicion that this person did not act on their own and further investigations are being carried out.

Sadly the money was never recovered and as a result we have introduced even stronger and stricter protocols for handling funds.

HEALTH DEPT

We thank God that we have never lost a child due to accident or illness. We place a high priority on our Home of Peace Health Department and were sad when, due to personal circumstances, our Health Dept Manager had to resign at the end of December.

REGISTRATION

Protection. The Kenyan Government has very strict rules about Children’s Homes and as such we have to re-apply every 3 years. This is a long, complex and expensive process involving multiple inspections of Home of Peace, reports from the local Children’s Services, the Dept of Health, the Police. A detailed examination of all our records and audited accounts, etc.

It takes close to a year from the start of the process until we are informed of the results.

We were informed, o the record, that Home of Peace was the only Children’s Home approved in Siaya county by the head oice, they are still not passing other homes. Hopefully the other Children’s Homes will be able to make the required changes and improvements in order to have their registration renewed.

NEW CHILDREN

The need to take in vulnerable children, committed to Home of Peace by the Children’s Court, seems unending. So many children who need help so few places like Home of Peace who can help them.

Every child we take in is a human being. A person like you, with hopes, dreams, talents, potential and is someone loved by God.

We are limited in the number we can take but as soon as there is an open spot the Children’s Court commits new needy children to Home of Peace, During August we took in 3 new children. These are all children who the court have decided are in genuine need of help and protection.

Each new child means we need to purchase everything that they need. Casual clothes, School uniforms, pay school fees, buy school supplies, have medical checks carried out and so on.

This costs us a minimum of £300 per new child.
